Team BDS announce new leadership and rebrand with a new name

Team BDS have announced that the organisation is ‘entering a new era’ with new leadership and an upcoming rebrand.

BDS’ head of strategy, Alexandre Lopez, has been promoted to acting CEO of the Swiss esports organisation.

The organisation will undergo a total rebrand in the upcoming months that “better aligns with its current spirit and future ambitions.”

The news comes a little over seven months after the departure of former CEO and Team BDS’ namesake, Patrice Bailo De Spoelberch.

He was fired from the company for a controversial tweet, which stated that women who have abortions should lose the right to have children.

It seemed likely that the large-scale rebrand would include a new name away from BDS to fully cut ties with Spoelberch.

A name change has seemingly been confirmed by a tweet from a graphic designer who works for the organisation.

Lopez says the rebrand will “showcase our evolution, our energy, and our desire to unite people beyond the competitive scene.”

“We want to build a brand that reflects who we are: bold, ambitious, and deeply human,” he added

In addition to the rebrand, BDS also announced a new non-profit initiative that’s part of a broader CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) strategy.

According to the statement, the initiative will promote video games and esports to youth in hospitals and underprivileged communities.

No details have been shared about how this initiative will work, but BDS claim they want to “play an active role in society through concrete and lasting actions.”

The organisation are also planning on moving into a new headquarters located in Geneva, Switzerland by the end of the year.

This new facility will include a gaming house and BDS hopes it will strengthen the org’s local roots.

Team BDS’ history in esports

BDS have found a fair bit of success in European esports.

They have previously attended the League of Legends World Championships in 2023.

And their LEC team is showing more ambition as BDS are reportedly spending €200k to sign jungler Boukada.

However, the organisation is better known for their Rainbow Six Siege and Rocket League teams.

In Rainbow Six, Team BDS won the Six Jönköping Major 2022 and the Esports World Cup 2024.

And BDS is one of the most successful Rocket League teams ever having won the 2022 and 2024 World Championships.

BDS also won the Rocket League tournament at the Esports World Cup, helping them finish third in the Club Championship standings.
