Zero Hour made a large enough splash on Steam last year with tense tactical FPS action. Now developer-publisher AttritoM7 Productions is moving to the streets of New York circa 2012 to take us to a shady underworld where a DVD store owner hunts down assassination targets at night. Enter BLACKWOOD.
That’s a killer pitch (pun intended), so let’s just focus on the gritty reveal trailer first:
Someone got tired of waiting for Lionsgate to greenlight a proper third-person action-adventure John Wick video game, it seems, and you won’t hear us complain. Veteran gamers will also notice more than a few strands of Max Payne DNA in there, and since Remedy’s remakes of the original two games are still a ways off, the timing on BLACKWOOD feels perfect.
“You play as a seemingly ordinary store owner, managing your small DVD shop in an authentic recreation of New York, 2012. But when night falls, you descend into the city’s underworld as a contract killer, caught between survival, morality, and a past that refuses to stay buried.”
Of course, stylish gunplay is at the centre of BLACKWOOD’s action, with dives, rolls, and slides keeping things kinetic, but the developers are also paying special attention to contextual takedowns, with over 30 promised at launch.
As for its size, it appears the game will follow a traditional mission-based structure with “cinematic storytelling.” Perhaps more surprising is the promise of RPG and light management elements as this store-owner-turned-assassin (or maybe it’s the other way around?) tries to be normal during the day. Colour us very intrigued.
BLACKWOOD is releasing on PC via Steam at some point of Q3 2026. No console versions have been announced.
