We’ve had no shortage of exciting RTS games coming out this year and beyond, but only a few are trying to bring back the spark of old Blizzard-developed classics. Up next, Space Tales will put a cartoonier twist on StarCraft-style base-building and large battles.
The game will be hitting Steam Early Access in early 2026, and Vietnam-based developer/publisher Saigon Dragon Studios says it’s bringing together talent from other RTS projects like They Are Billions, Ablight, and Liquidation. You can watch the announcement trailer below:
“Blending classic RTS roots with fresh ideas, Space Tales puts players in command of humanity’s expansion across hostile alien worlds,” the press release explains. While its core might seem familiar, the studio is also introducing a few ideas of its own beyond the universe-building, like the ability to capture a bunch of “colossal alien bosses” which can later be turned into powerful allies.
Handcrafted missions, survival mechanics, and “sci-fi satire” elements are also part of the colorful mix. When it hits early access, the game will be promising the following:

Story-Driven RTS Campaign: 16+ handcrafted missions filled with unique objectives, memorable characters, and satirical twists.

Modular Base-Building: Expand your colony using a HUB system that lets you create sprawling power grids and defensive outposts.

Tactical Combat: Face off against a range of alien threats, including giant boss monsters, in fast-paced RTS battles where every decision counts.

Capture Alien Titans: Battle and tame colossal alien lifeforms and add them to your forces, giving you devastating new units to command.

Deep Skill Tree & Playstyle Customization: Unlock new abilities, upgrades, and combat perks through a flexible tech and skill tree to build an army that reflects your strategic style.

High Replayability: With multiple approaches to each mission, branching upgrades, and a wide range of unit compositions, every playthrough can unfold differently.
More eyebrow-raising is the disclosure via the game’s Steam page the development team is “selectively incorporating AI technology” into supplementary sound effects and minor characters. At that point, you might as well drop the entire thing and keep the soundscape simpler if the budget isn’t quite there in order to avoid online drama for a debut game. Just a thought!
