Different projections indicate that the FIFA World Cup 2026 will be the most attended World Cup in history, with an average crowd of 72,500 per game and a projected 5.8 million tickets sold. This would surpass the existing record of over 3.6 million total spectators from the 1994 World Cup in the United States. FIFA is using the NFT-based ticketing solutions to enhance security, combat fraud, and offer collectible and value-added experiences for fans.
FIFA Collect is an official digital trading platform, allowing football fans can collect, trade, and enjoy digital collectibles that feature iconic moments and players from FIFA tournaments and club matches. By leveraging blockchain technology, the trading platform offers fans a modern way to engage with the sport. FIFA Collection allows NFT users to find unique opportunities, like a “Right to Buy” (RTB).
Moreover, FIFA Collect also allows users to purchase digital packs to receive collectibles, which come in different rarity tiers, including Common, Rare, Epic, and Iconic. It also allows crypto users to challenge to earn special rewards, which include digital prizes or access to unique digital experiences. The platform’s “Redemption Center” lets NFT users burn eligible collectibles to earn Redemption Points, which can then be exchanged for exclusive limited-edition packs and rewards.
FIFA joined the NFT market in November 2022 with the launch of the FIFA+ Collect platform, which was built on the Algorand network and released in conjunction with blockchain software firm Modex. Since then, FIFA+Collect has partnered with many football teams to launch NFTs. Earlier this year, it partnered with Al Ahly, one of the leading football clubs in Egypt, to launch an NFT collection. Egypt football team, Al Ahly FC, became the first African soccer club to join the FIFA Collect.
FIFA Collect X Avalanche Integration
This time around, FIFA has integrated Avalanche technology to launch NFT tickets. Avalanche helps companies create NFT tickets by providing a scalable, fast, and cost-efficient platform with robust tools for smart contract development. It allows companies to use its solidity-compatible ecosystem to build decentralized applications and Layer 2 Subnets for high transaction volumes, ensuring quick and secure creation, management, and trading of NFT tickets. This functionality allows automated ticket delivery via smart contracts, enhanced security, and post-event benefits for ticket holders.
