10 best Overwatch 2 maps
10. Havana

- Release date: May 7, 2019
- Location: Havana, Cuba
- Map type: Escort
- Areas: The City Streets, the Distillery and the Sea Fort
- Reworked in season 13.
Havana is a somewhat divisive map, but it makes it onto our list because of how excellent it can be as a sniper’s nest when on the defensive. Players who are skilled with heroes such as Ashe or Widowmaker – or even shooters like Soldier 76 – can cause chaos while defending, thanks to how many points can be used as sniper nests. This can create a somewhat unbalanced feeling, but it’s a must for those who excel at sniping.
9. Blizzard World

- Release date: January 23, 2018
- Location: California, United States
- Map type: Hybrid.
Blizzard World is a fun map based on a fictional theme park revolving around various Blizzard Entertainment properties. There are lots of places to explore and plenty of Blizzard easter eggs to uncover. From a technical perspective, it has variation in terrain, combining open paths and tight spaces with high-ground locations. From an aesthetic perspective, Blizzard World is one of the best. However, it is somewhat biased to the defending team because of difficult entry chokepoints.
8. Hollywood

- Release date: May 24, 2016
- Location: Los Angeles, United States
- Map type: Hybrid
- Areas: Studio Gates, Western Movie Set, and Sci-Fi Soundstage.
Hollywood is another aesthetically pleasing map with a fun theme centred around going behind the scenes of movie-making. This is a well-balanced map that can accommodate a range of playstyles, though it is another that is somewhat defender-biased due to the tricky initial chokepoint.
7. Route 66

- Release date: May 24, 2016
- Location: Arizona, United States
- Map type: Escort
- Areas: Gas Station, Western Town Complex, and Bunker
- Design changes were made in season 7.
Route 66 is a map with a great theme that ties in with some of the heroes in the game (Cassidy and Ashe, but also Echo). Once again, this is another defender bias map due to the first chokepoint, but if the attacking team are able to do so, the map becomes much more versatile, opening up significantly and creating space for long-range heroes and close combat characters alike.
6. Lijang Tower

- Release date: May 24, 2016
- Location: Liljang, China
- Map type: Control
- Areas: Night Market, Garden, and Control Center.
The futuristic cityscape of Lijang Tower is a feast for the eyes, but it’s not the only thing that makes this map one of best in Overwatch 2. Lijang Tower has great versatility thanks to the three separate sub maps, all of which offer different layouts for different kinds of heroes. From flanking opportunities to areas that allow players to push others off the map, there is a lot to enjoy about Lijang Tower.
5. Circuit Royal

- Release date: April 26, 2022
- Location: Monte Carlo, Monaco
- Map type: Escort
- Areas: The Casino Front, Vertical Curving Racetrack and The Hotel
- Reworked in season 13.
Circuit Royal is an escort map that can provide some challenges, such as the defence-heavy initial chokepoints and high-ground areas. This makes the map another sniper-friendly choice, but this also changes quickly once the payload enters the hotel area. While the layout of the map isn’t as favoured as some, the aesthetics are some of the best in the game, with a luxurious, visually stunning Monte Carlo setting.
4. Rialto

- Release date: May 3, 2018
- Location: Venice, Italy
- Map type: Escort
- Areas: The Grand Hotel and Courtyard, The Rialto Bridge and Dock and Talon Headquarters.
The Rialto map utilises the traditional architecture of Venice to not only create amazing visuals, but also to impact gameplay. Tight street corners and canals, such as those found in the real Venice, can be used to flank enemies and create chokepoints. Players can also use these canals to their advantage, pushing enemies off the map’s bridge and dock area to get environmental kills. The fantastic design of Rialto is offset by plenty of varying gameplay opportunities, making it a standout map choice.
3. Eichenwalde

- Release date: September 1, 2016
- Location: Stuttgart outskirts, Germany
- Map type: Hybrid
- Areas: The Town, The Castle Grounds and The Castle Interior.
Eichenwalde is significantly tied to the lore of Overwatch and the hero Reinhardt, making it a strong map in terms of narrative. The decrepit remains of the town make for a visual treat, too, as players navigate through the ruined rural streets to escort the payload to the castle.
The map has several memorable chokepoints, particularly the castle gate entry point. The castles are also much more than just pretty aesthetics, as the walls and structures can be used in all sorts of ways to attack and defend. Eichenwalde is well-balanced and particularly beloved among fans, and it’s easy to see why.
2. Illios

- Release date: May 24, 2016
- Location: Greece
- Map type: Control
- Areas: Lighthouse, Well and Ruins.
Sunny Illios is a picturesque, vacation-like destination in the Overwatch world, but it also makes for a fantastic map. This Control map follows the same structure as the other Overwatch 2 maps in that there are three separate sub-maps. Each has different features, such as the Well, which offers the chance for some chaotic gameplay as players can try to knock one another into the huge well in the map’s centre. Different heroes are more effective on each map, but the main theme running throughout is an emphasis on environmental kills, which can be fun but strategically challenging. The visuals are beautiful too, as the fictional village was inspired by the real-life Greek village of Santorini, and features crystal clear seas and white stone houses.
1. King’s Row

- Release date: May 24, 2016
- Location: London, United Kingdom
- Map type: Hybrid.
King’s Row is one of the OG Overwatch maps, and it has continued to be one of the most popular maps. King’s Row has a dystopian London design, with luxurious streets on the surface and hints at a murky underbelly beneath. Technically, the map is one of the most versatile, with ample opportunities for flankers, tank attacks, defences, and sniper nests. It can be tricky to use King’s Row to its full potential, though, making for a map that is as challenging as it is efficient. King’s Row is undoubtedly the best map in Overwatch, with an incredible level of design that continues to stand the test of time.
Conclusion
These are some of the top choices for maps in Overwatch 2, but don’t be disheartened if you don’t see your favourite on the list. Any map can be fun to play, no matter what hero you are playing as. Although there is a lot to enjoy about most of the maps in the game, our Overwatch 2 ranked maps list highlights some of the better choices when it comes to gameplay, design and visual aesthetics.
