Battlefield 6: Beware of fake playtest ads on Reddit – you could lose your Steam account

Advertisements are currently circulating on Reddit that are clearly phishing attempts. So be careful.

There are only a few weeks left until Battlefield 6 officially launches on October 10, but scammers are already trying to take advantage of fans’ impatience.
There are currently ads on Reddit that lure users with an invitation to a playtest. However, the real intention behind these ads is to obtain login details for Steam or EA accounts.
Warning: Phishing attempts on Reddit

Reddit user qwentyfish99 warns in a post about advertisements that are being placed on the popular forum itself and may look like this:

Important PSA: Reddit is running fake BF6 ads (Phishing)

What looks like a normal ad at first glance is actually an attempt to get your account details. If you click on such an ad, you will be taken to a page that looks very similar to Steam or the EA website.

There, you will be asked to enter your login details to gain access to the playtest. Of course, you won’t get access. Instead, you will have revealed your username and password to the scammers and could lose access to your account.

How can I recognize such fake sites?

Always pay attention to the URL, as it will of course differ from the original website. Take a close look at the domain name, i.e., what comes before “.com.”

Practical example: The Reddit advertisement leads to the domains “6-battlefield.com” and “store.steampowered.joinedplaytest.com”. If you google the official sites, you will quickly realize that the domains should actually be called “ea.com, battlefield.com, or store.steampowered.com.”

Another good indication of fake advertising is strange wording or obvious spelling mistakes in the ads. In the Battlefield ad, for example, the term “Battle Royale” is misspelled, with the “e” at the end missing.

There is only one way to participate in the playtests

That’s through the Battlefield Labs community testing program. You can find out how to sign up in our step-by-step guide. However, registration is no guarantee of participation, but it is the only way to play Battlefield 6 before its release. There is currently no information about other playtests, so be on your guard.

Incidentally, it’s quite possible that EA will continue to test new content in BF Labs even after the launch, so registering could still be worthwhile.
