G2 Esports has claimed the BLAST Open London 2025 trophy, stealing the coveted silverware away from Team Vitality and silencing any doubters in an absolute banger of a final.

It’s the first tournament win for G2 Esports after rebuilding the roster early in the year.

Before the BLAST Open London LAN Finals and G2’s initial match versus FaZe Clan, we had the opportunity to sit down with their new rifler, Matus “MATYS” Simko.

MATYS told us in a revealing interview: “We know how good we we can play, like against Spirit, and how well we play in practice. It’s not a bad thing, I think we’ll be better for it, and maybe people will underestimate us.”

Performing above expectations, G2 Esports sent FaZe Clan packing in a 2-0 affair (13-5 on Inferno, 19-15 on Dust2) in the quarterfinals, and smashed Brazilian side FURIA with a strong 2-0 showing (13-5 on Inferno, 13-5 on Mirage) in the semifinals to make it to the ultimate showdown at the OVO Arena Wembley in London.

Team Vitality, and hometown hero William “mezii” Merriman, were looking to get back to winning ways after brushing MOUZ aside with a 2-0 score (13-7 Mirage, 13-8 Inferno) in the semifinal.

BLAST Open London’s Grand Final was a banger

The best-of-five Grand Final didn’t disappoint, with all five maps required to crown a champion.

Team Vitality had a 13-map win streak on Dust2, the first map of the Grand Final. While many onlookers might have counted G2 Esports out on the iconic map, they took Team Vitality to school with a stunning 13-3 win.

On G2 Esports’ map pick of Mirage, the sides were tied 6-6 at the end of the first half. However, Team Vitality pulled ahead with vigor on the T side in the second half to win seven rounds in a row, thereby securing a 13-6 victory on Mirage and levelling the series score.

Team Vitality took charge by claiming Overpass with a 13-6 score, again winning seven rounds in a row in the second half, this time on the CT side to put themselves just one map away from the title.

G2 Esports showed its resilience and big-match temperament on Inferno. It was too close to call in regulation, as both teams scored 12 rounds, forcing an overtime situation. In overtime, however, G2 Esports defeated Team Vitality 4-0, securing a 16-12 win on Inferno and forcing a fifth and deciding map.

It all came down to Train, and G2 Esports didn’t pull any punches, taking an early 6-0 lead before Team Vitality got on the board. With an 8-4 lead in the first half, G2 Esports closed out Train on the T side with a 13-6 win and claimed the trophy in London.

The win on Train was, in part, thanks to an absolutely massive performance from Nikita “HeavyGod” Martynenko, who got an Ace in the first round of play, and boasted a 2.04 rating, with 18 kills and only nine deaths.
