With the major “Voyagers” update and the new shipbuilding feature, No Man’s Sky is more popular than it has been in six years.
Nine years after its turbulent release, No Man’s Sky is once again proving its incredible staying power. The newly released “Voyagers” update has catapulted player numbers on Steam to a new high, unseen since July 2018.
Almost 100,000 players thanks to huge update
This success did not come out of nowhere, but is directly attributable to the extensive update 6.0, titled “Voyagers,” which was released free of charge for all platforms at the end of August 2025. According to data from SteamDB, the number of concurrent players skyrocketed to a peak of 93,332 over the weekend:
This figure is all the more impressive when you consider that it only reflects the numbers for the PC version on Steam. Players on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch are not even included here.
The actual total number of active players is therefore likely to be significantly higher. For a game that was originally released in 2016, this renewed spring is proof that developer Hello Games’ long-term update policy is still working excellently.
What’s in the Voyagers update?
The main reason for the renewed hype is one of the biggest expansions to date and one that many players have been eagerly awaiting: building your own walk-in spaceships.
With the “Voyagers” update, you can now design your own corvette-class ships from scratch and customize them to your liking, as you can see in the trailer:
These ships are much more than just a new aircraft: they serve as mobile bases that you can equip with hundreds of modular parts such as hulls, wings, engines, and living quarters.
Inside, the ships can be furnished with furniture and functional modules such as refineries or mission computers. Your corvette becomes a real meeting place where you can invite friends to start new missions together.

In addition to this central feature, the update also delivers the nineteenth community expedition, which helps you build your first corvette and promises exclusive rewards such as a robot companion. The package is rounded off by new customization options for your exosuit, numerous quality-of-life improvements such as full controller button mapping on consoles, and technical optimizations for better performance.
