Overwatch 2 x Persona 5: Everything we know so far about the collab

TL;DR

  • Blizzard teased a collaboration between Overwatch 2 and Persona 5 at the end of the season 18 Overwatch 2 trailer.
  • At the time of writing, there is no confirmed information regarding what cosmetics will be released and which heroes will get skins.
  • Some heroes that could get skins in the crossover include Juno as Haru and Wrecking Ball as Morgana.
  • Although nothing is confirmed, most of the skins in this collaboration are likely to be locked behind a paywall.

Overwatch 2 has racked up some impressive collaborations in the last few years. From Transformers to Avatar: The Last Airbender, the game has featured various crossovers with popular franchises. Season 18 of Overwatch 2 was recently released, and in the trailer for the new season, the next crossover–a collaboration with Atlus’s JRPG Persona 5–was teased.

Persona 5 is an incredibly popular game, so it’s no surprise that there is anticipation for the Overwatch 2 x Persona 5 crossover. With this in mind, let’s dive into everything we know so far about the Overwatch 2 Persona 5 collab.

Expected Overwatch 2 Persona 5 release date

TBC, but mid-season 18 seems likely ~ end of September

At the time of writing, August 28 2025, there has been no official release date for the Persona 5 x Overwatch 2 crossover. This isn’t that surprising, as most of the other collaborations were also announced via a teaser and then given a release date later in the season. Some of the collabs were released soon after the season began, such as the My Hero Academia crossover from season 7. This collab was released on October 17, 2024, which was just a week after the season dropped on October 10, 2024.

However, most of the collabs tend to drop mid-season, around a month after the season starts. Since there has been no other information released as of yet, it seems likely that the Overwatch 2 and Persona 5 collaboration will be a mid-season content release.

Overwatch 2 x Persona 5 details

TBC, but specific cosmetics and challenges are expected

No official details have been released at the time of writing. There also haven’t been any Overwatch 2 x Persona 5 leaks, but it’s safe to assume that the collab will be similar to the other crossovers featured in Overwatch 2 so far. It will likely include Legendary skins with specific effects related to the Persona 5 characters. The collaboration is also likely to include other cosmetics, such as sprays, player icons and emotes. There will probably be specific challenges that offer free cosmetics, such as player titles and weapon charms, to players who complete them.

Blizzard has come under fire with some of their collaborations for not including enough skins, instead focusing on minor cosmetics, but still charging a fair amount of money. Here’s hoping that the Overwatch 2 Persona 5 cosmetics include plenty of skins, as there are various characters with iconic costumes in the games that would make for awesome Overwatch 2 skins.

Overwatch 2 Persona 5 skins and cosmetics speculation

There have been no confirmations regarding which Overwatch 2 heroes will get skins in the upcoming collaboration. That doesn’t mean that we can’t speculate a little, though. Here are the heroes we think could get Overwatch 2 Persona 5 skins when the collab drops.

Ren Amamiya (Protagonist) / Joker: Cassidy, Kiriko or Soldier 76

When it comes to Persona 5’s protagonist, several characters could fit the bill. The small teaser clip shows a quick glimpse of the skin’s silhouette, but it gives little away. However, there are a few clues about who will get the main character.

Each Overwatch 2 hero has a distinctive shape that makes them stand out on the battlefield, and the character receiving the Joker skin is someone who has a long flowing element to their silhouette to represent his trenchcoat.

There are a few heroes that either have that design element in their base skin or have skins that implement that feature. Cassidy is a likely choice, as he has a few skins with long trench coats. He also uses a revolver, which would fit well with Joker’s handguns. Soldier: 76 is also an option, as he too has a skin with a long coat (Strike Commander Morrison), and it would be great to have a new skin that shows him when he was younger.

Another option could be Kiriko, which is possible as Blizzard has gender swapped with their crossover skins before, such as Tracer’s Deku skin in the My Hero Academia crossover. Kiriko seems like an apt choice due to her similarities to Joker. Not only is she the leader of a group of rebellious youths, but she is also Japanese, wields kunai that could reflect Joker’s daggers, and has the flowing costume parts. Genji would also be a great choice for Joker, but this seems unlikely, as a trenchcoat would break his silhouette and alter his design too severely.

Ryuji Sakamoto /Skull: Junkrat or Wuyang

Ryuji is something of a comic relief character in Persona 5, which would suit Junkrat perfectly. He also has a similar look, with spiky blonde hair, brown eyes and a tall, lanky frame. However, Wuyang could also make for an excellent Ryuji, which is apparent with his summer skin that gives him a similar, spiky blonde hairdo.

Ryuji uses shotguns and bludgeoning weapons, which don’t really suit Wuyang or Junkrat’s skill kits (though Junkrat’s weapons could be altered to look similar to Ryuji’s more easily than Wuyang’s). Reaper could be a good choice in this respect, as well as with his silhouette, which could accommodate Ryuji’s long coat. However, Reaper is a bit too dark and broody for a fun character like Ryuji, so Wuyang and Junkrat seem more appropriate.

Ann Takamaki / Panther: Widowmaker or Mercy

An Ann skin could work well for Widowmaker or for Mercy. Widowmaker is pretty perfect in terms of Ann’s design, as they have similar body types and both wear catsuits. Widowmaker also has a grapple that could easily be transformed into the whip that Ann uses.

Mercy is also a great choice. She is more similar to Ann in terms of appearance, having donned blonde pigtails before with her Pink skin. Mercy is more in line with Ann as a character, too, as both are fiercely loyal.

Yusuke Kitagawa / Fox: Genji

A Yusuke skin for Genji is a no-brainer for the Persona 5 x Overwatch 2 crossover. Both use a samurai sword as their primary weapon, and both have connections to a spirit animal of sorts (Yusuke’s is a fox while Genji’s is a dragon).

Kiriko could also have a Yusuke skin, though this would only be because of the matching fox themes. Genji feels like a better-suited hero for Yusuke overall.

Makoto Nijima / Queen: Tracer or Symmetra

Three female video game characters are shown: one in futuristic armor, another in a black outfit with a mask on a red background, and one in a white and blue dress with a headpiece

The incredibly intelligent and somewhat uptight Makoto would be a great fit for the equally intelligent and uptight Symmetra. Their personalities are similar, and Symmetra’s design lends itself well to a leather, biker-like outfit, as shown with her Junker skin.

However, when it comes to a hero whose design is almost a perfect match for Makoto, Tracer is the top pick. She has short hair, skins that include a flowing scarf and even has a highlight intro that includes a motorcycle. Design-wise, she is the best choice, but Symmetra nails the personality elements. Symmetra is long overdue for an awesome Legendary skin, too.

Futaba Sakura / Oracle: Sombra or D.Va

A triptych featuring three characters: a futuristic woman with purple hair, a confident anime girl with glasses, and a woman beside a pink and white robotic suit

Futaba is essentially the “guy in the chair” for the Phantom Thieves, acting as their infiltrator and hacker. Sombra is the obvious pick for a Futaba skin because of this. However, D.Va could also work for a Futaba skin.

D.Va wears a similar body suit to Futaba, and the two characters are both gamers (though Sombra seems to be a bit of a gamer, too). D.Va’s mech could also fit in well with a Futaba skin, as it could be redesigned to look like Futaba’s Persona, Necronomicon, which is a spaceship that Futaba sits in.

Haru Okumara / Noir: Juno

Out of all of these ideas, a Haru skin for Juno seems most likely / Image credit: Blizzard Entertainment

The parallels between Juno and Haru are so obvious that it feels like it would be an injustice if she didn’t get a Haru skin. Both are bubbly, sweet young women who are a little naive, but also incredibly dedicated to those they care about.

Juno has been involved in so many of the Overwatch 2 collaborations (as has Kiriko), so it seems a little unfair that she gets another skin. That being said, Juno and Haru are such a perfect match that it would feel odd if another hero got a Haru skin.

Goro Akechi / Crow: Lifeweaver

Akechi is an incredibly charming character in Persona 5, though there is more to him than meets the eye. Lifeweaver is arguably the most charming Overwatch hero to date, and while his charm feels a lot more authentic than Akechi’s, he still feels like he would be the right choice.

Baptiste could also work, as he too is a charmer, and his Biotic Launcher could work well as Akechi’s laser gun. That being said, Lifeweaver still feels better suited for an Akechi skin.

Kasumi Yoshizawa / Violet: Mei

There probably won’t be a Kasumi skin, but if Blizzard do go all out with the Persona skins, Mei and Kasumi blend well / Image credit: Blizzard Entertainment and ATLUS

Without going too far into spoiler territory, Kasumi and Mei share similarities in that they are both cheerful, sweet and kind, but are also dealing with significant trauma from past events in their lives. If Kasumi does get a skin, Mei feels like the right hero to portray her.

Morgana / Mona: Wrecking Ball

The image is split. On the left, a hamster in a space suit confidently peers over a spacecraft edge. On the right, a cartoon cat with a mask and big eyes joyfully leaps against a red background

Morgana has a cat-like appearance in both the real world and in the Metaverse, and the only real choice when it comes to a skin that would work for him is Wrecking Ball. Winston is too large to accurately portray Morgana, but Wrecking Ball could do so quite well, as he did with Ein the corgi in the Cowboy Bebop crossover.

It is unlikely that Blizzard will release skins for all of the Persona 5 characters mentioned above, but it would be great if the main Phantom Thieves got skins. Here’s hoping that Blizzard has learnt from the feedback of previous collaborations and will include plenty of skins and other sought-after cosmetics in this crossover.

FAQs

The skins in the event will probably not be free, but some cosmetics and possibly one skin could be unlockable via the completion of in-game event challenges.
