Blizzard Entertainment has announced a Persona crossover for Overwatch 2, launching with Season 18 this month.
The season’s trailer ended with a teaser of Joker from Persona 5, also known as Ren Amamiya. The teaser showed his white mask and red gloves against a red star-patterned background.
Season 18 goes live on August 26th, 2025, and the collaboration comes ahead of the Overwatch Champions Series Stage 4 in September.
What is Persona?
Persona 5 is a popular Japanese role-playing game series developed by Atlus, a part of Sega.
The game was released on PlayStation 3 and 4 in September 2016, and worldwide in 2017.
An enhanced version, Persona 5 Royal, was released several years later, and was also released on Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
A spin-off from Shin Megami Tensei, it focuses on high school students who use supernatural powers, called Personas, to fight enemies in alternate worlds.
Persona 5 follows the Phantom Thieves, led by Joker, as they reform corrupt adults by stealing their distorted desires.
The series is known for its engaging stories, vibrant art, and strong fanbase, especially in Japan.
The Persona crossover could bring skins for Overwatch 2 heroes based on Persona 5 characters, similar to past collaborations like Cowboy Bebop and My Hero Academia.
Overwatch 2 Season 18 new features and modes including crossover
The Persona crossover on Overwatch 2 launches alongside Season 18’s Stadium Quick Play mode on August 26th.
Blizzard’s YouTube description says the mode arrives “with shorter match times, quicker item economy, backfill support and crossplay”.
The timing positions the crossover content ahead of the Overwatch Championship Series tournaments this autumn.
“Over 50 new Perks are arriving at launch, with each Hero getting at least one new one,” Blizzard announced. “Season 18 is also bringing a Competitive Rank Reset, allowing a fresh start for everyone.
“We’re also bringing a brand new game mode to Stadium with Payload Race, 3 new maps, and the new Draft Mode,” Blizzard stated.
Draft Mode is being introduced for pre-match counter-picking, while the new Payload Race more is where teams will push through parallel payloads through checkpoints to the finish line.
Three new maps—Powder Keg Mine, Thames District, and Oasis Gardens—will be added, while two mythic skins are also being introduced.
The two net mythic skins are Sojourn’s Ultraviolet Sentinel, with customisable hairstyles and visual effects, and Cassidy’s Blazing Sunsetter weapon skin, which reacts to trigger pulls.
Earlier this year, Overwatch 2 unveiled eight new Street Fighter 6 crossover skins.
