Ron Gilbert, creator of Monkey Island, has revealed his new title, Death By Scrolling – described as an ‘open-world, Legend of Zelda-styled action-adventure game’.
Gilbert previously worked at LucasArts and created several titles – he’s perhaps best known, however, for his work on the Monkey Island series and Maniac Mansion. He left LucasArts back in 1992 and recently published Return to Monkey Island.
“I started working on this game back in 2019. It started out great and everybody I showed it to loved it, but it was simple,” Gilbert wrote on his blog earlier this year. “Everybody asked for progression and ‘game’ stuff, and over the next six months, I proceeded to ruin it.”
“I rebuilt the whole project, stripping out all the stupid stuff, and returned it to the core of the game back when it was fun.”
Currently, the title is undated, but it can be wishlisted on Steam.
