Blizzard Entertainment has announced online that The Ultimates will be replaced by Quick Esports ahead of the Overwatch Champions Series (OWCS) Stage 3 in the EMEA region.

The change was made after The Ultimates failed to register an ‘eligible roster’ on time, giving Quick Esports a second chance to potentially qualify for the OWCS World Finals later this year.

“EMEA’s #4 seed, The Ultimates, are unable to field an eligible roster for Stage 3 and have thus been removed from the competition,” the official Overwatch Esports account tweeted. “Quick Esports, who placed third in our Stage 2 Promotion/Relegation tournament, will take their place and compete in Stage 3 as the #8 seed.”

The post also shared that all teams seeded fourth and below ‘will move up one seed’ in light of the change.

Quick Esports has made its way back into the competition after players from 1DIPVS100GORILLAS, the roster that originally qualified, joined the organisation on August 17th. However, a few alterations have been made to the team heading into the tournament.

This is Quick Esports’ active roster playing in OWCS Stage 3:

  • ‘Evil’ – Damage
  • ‘Jonte’ – Support
  • ‘SNOWDR0P’ – Damage
  • Lancelot ‘Skytorr’ Sergeant – Tank
  • Monty ‘Strebor’ Roberts – Support
  • Valdemar ‘yoham’ Fog von Qualen – Support
  • ‘ZERO’ – Damage

On the other hand, The Ultimates was originally placed fourth during EMEA Stage 2, losing in the Lower Bracket Semi-finals 3-1 to Virtus.pro. However, heading into Stage 3, players representing The Ultimates have either left or joined other organisations.

For example, on August 12th, Kevin ‘kevster’ Persson left to join Virtus.pro as one of its damage players.

What to Expect at OWCS Stage 3 EMEA

Quick Esports will be facing fierce competition at OWCS Stage 3, competing against Midseason Championship teams such as Al Qadsiah and Twisted Minds. In addition, Quick Esports may potentially face off against Anomaly, the team that has defeated the roster in both the Upper Bracket Semi-finals and Lower Bracket Finals during the Promotion/Relegation tournament.

However, if Quick Esports can reach top three, the organisation will receive up to $30,000 (~£22,100) in winnings and qualify for the OWCS World Finals taking place at DreamHack Stockholm later this year.
