Fragadelphia has revealed that its Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) LAN event has sold out in three minutes.
Taking place from October 3rd to 5th in Philadelphia, Fragadelphia x The Block 2 will feature 32 teams competing for a share of a $10,000 (~£7,371) prize pool.
The Importance Of Fragadelphia x The Block 2
Due to its place within the CS2 tournament calendar, Fragadelphia’s latest tournament falls as the final event before the cut-off for the StarLadder Budapest Major taking place in November. As a result, it’s the final opportunity for teams to earn Valve Regional Standings (VRS) points to secure a place within the top 32.
Thanks to the VRS system, all CS2 LAN events receive a modifier known as the “LAN factor”, which increases the value of victories scored for offline matches. Thanks to the LAN factor, smaller tournaments such as EPIC.LAN 45 saw the likes of FUT Esports attend in a bid to climb the rankings.
With esports organisations looking to earn a place on Counter-Strike’s biggest stage, the North American event has attracted several European sides that will make the trip stateside in a bid to grab the last remaining VRS Points before the Major invites are distributed.
While several notable organisations have earned a place at Fragadelphia, many North American sides failed to get a ticket, which were sold on a first-come, first-served basis.
“Unfortunately, we failed to sign up instantly, leaving us out of the tournament. Very glad all these teams decided to make the trip across the ocean and ‘help’ make NA CS grow stronger,” said Life’s A Game (LAG) rifler Kyle ‘Wolffe’ Greenfield on social media.
“Nobody is going to learn anything from this tournament. They will all leave instantly. They only see free VRS. What a joke.”
Others say that the 32-team capacity is also negatively impacting North American CS, as it prevents the opportunity for teams within the region to compete against Europeans.
“Fragadelphia knowing the importance of this event and not making it 64 teams, does a massive disservice to NA,” added former Nouns player Bobby ‘stamina’ Eitrem.
