Marvel Rivals Ignite Mid Season Finals has entered its main stage, where the top teams around the world compete to be crowned its inaugural global champion.
The second day of the LAN event in Guangzhou, China, saw a lot of intense matchups live on stage. In the end, the stars of the Play-In stage came out on top, while some of Marvel Rivals’ Stage 1 regional champions were sent to the Lower Brackets, facing the risk of elimination.
EMEA Champions Suffer First Loss
The second day kicked off with an action-packed game between EMEA Stage 1 Champions, Citadel Gaming, formerly Brr Brr Patapim, and the stars of the Play-In stage ENVY.
Citadel Gaming claimed an early lead, winning the first two matches on Hell’s Heaven and Yggdrasill Path. However, ENVY bounced back with a reverse sweep, winning three consecutive matches with victories on Central Park, Arakko, and Krakoa.
ENVY became the first team to progress to the Upper Bracket Semi-Finals, while Citadel Gaming was knocked down to the Lower Brackets.
Americas Ace Faces Landslide Defeat
Americas Stage 1 champions Sentinels entered the tournament as one of the favourites to win. However, Rad EU, which qualified through the Play-In Stage, gave the American team the fight of its life, ultimately winning 3-0.
The first match ended with a narrow 2-1 win to Rad EU, followed by a more one-sided 2-0 win on Midtown. Finally, the showdown concluded with a 2-1 win for Rad EU on Central Park as it proved itself the better team this time around.
Rad EU enters the Upper Bracket Semi-Finals, and is set to face off against ENVY. Meanwhile, Sentinels has a long way to go before climbing back to the Upper Brackets, beginning with a Round One match against fellow champions Citadel Gaming.
100 Thieves Overthrows China’s Champion
The third matchup of the day saw Americas Stage 1 runners-up and NA Invitational champions, 100 Thieves, face off against China Stage 1 champions, OUG.
The latter started off strong, claiming the first match. Still,100 Thieves was undeterred and went on to win the next three matches.
OUG proved itself the better team on Krakoa, winning 2-1. 100 Thieves clawed its way back with a narrow 3-2 win on Hall of Djalia, but ultimately returned to form after winning Spider-Islands 2-1 and finally Hell’s Heaven with a landslide 2-0 victory.
OUG joins both the EMEA and Americas champions in the lower brackets, while 100 Thieves moves on to the upper Bracket Semi-Finals.
Ground Zero Gaming Strong Start
The final showdown of the day was a fight between champions, Oceania’s Stage 1 winner Ground Zero Gaming (GZG) and Asia’s Stage 1 apex team REJECT.
GZG took first blood after winning 2-0 on Hell’s Heaven, however, REJECT evened the score by leaving Hall of Djalia with a hard-fought 4-3 score. GZG would seal its fate in the next two matches, winning 3-2 on Arakko, and 1-0 on Spider-Islands.
