Gen.G remain LoL Worlds favourites after defeating T1 again

LCK and MSI champions Gen.G have once again proven they are the best League of Legends team in the world.

They defeated reigning World Champions T1, winning 2-1 in what ended up being a very dominant series.

Despite having automatically qualified for the LoL World Championships after winning MSI, Gen.G show no signs of slowing down.

It probably helped that this series counted as some sort of revenge for them after T1 ended Gen.G’s 27-0 series win streak last month.

That remarkable series of wins included matches in the LCK, MSI, and the Esports World Cup; all tournaments that Gen.G won.

This time, Gen.G were able to come out on top in what will surely be the rivalry which defines the 2025 season.

And while it was an impressive win for Gen.G, it didn’t look like it would go that way after the opening game.

The first match was completely dominated by T1. They defeated Gen.G and only dropped two kills, winning with a 16k gold lead.

Ryu ‘Keria’ Min-seok, in particular, looked very impressive as he had a phenomenal game on Bard.

After a rollercoaster year for T1, fans were confused to see this level of performance.

Especially as in recent years, the team has typically struggled in the regular season before winning the World Championships.

Concerns that T1 had flipped the script were quickly calmed down as T1 played much messier in the next two games.

Game 2 saw T1 start well but then fall off as Park ‘Ruler’ Jae-hyuk had a 2k gold lead over his bot opponent before the 20-minute mark.

In fact, the commentators were beginning to wonder if LoL’s new champion, Yunara, is actually broken due to his performance.

Neutrals hoping for a close and competitive third game between two of the world’s best teams did not get their wish.

T1 were sloppy while Gen.G were relentless as the latter returned the favour for Game 1 with a very dominant win of their own.

A genius countergank by Gen.G jungler Kim ‘Canyon’ Geon-bu in the early game quickly shut down any hope T1 had.

The jungler, a former world champion himself, also became just the sixth LCK player to record 4,500 assists in the league.

With the World Championships only a few months away, esports fans will be keeping a keen eye on Gen.G’s form.

Even once other teams have qualified, LoL betting sites will have Gen.G as heavy favourites to win Worlds.

Though ultimately, previous performances don’t matter when the LoL World Championship is concerned, and Gen.G know that all too well.

They were just as dominant last year, winning LCK Spring and MSI 2024.

However, they slipped up to Hanwha Life Esports in the LCK final and were eliminated by T1 during the Worlds semis.

Gen.G will have to perform when it matters most to finally secure a first World Championship for Jeong ‘Chovy’ Ji-hoon.
