Indian game developer SuperGaming has completed a INR 131 crore (~$14.93m / ~£11.21m) Series B funding round.
Led by existing investors Skycatcher and Steadview Capital, the round also saw the involvement of strategic investors from the esports space, such as Brazilian organisation LOUD. SuperGaming had previously raised INR 40.8 crore (~$5.5m) in a Series A round back in October 2021.
Other investors include a16z Speedrun, Bandai Namco 021 Fund, GFR Fund, Barings and Neowiz, all of which are known for their involvement in the gaming space. Additionally, there were also backers from the web3 space, as the company looks to make India a hub for game development and gaming infrastructure.
The funding will be primarily used for the company’s SuperPlatform global expansion, which has been developed in partnership with Google Cloud. The company’s main strategic asset aims to help emerging markets build proprietary backend technology and support the lifecycle of modern live service games.
Additionally, funds will also be used to accelerate the development of both SuperPlatform and the Indus Engine, according to a release.
SuperGaming is a game studio that has developed games like MaskGun, Battle Stars, as well as the Indo-Futuristic Battle Royale Indus, which has garnered over 9m downloads across the Google Play Store and on the App Store, according to a release.
The partnership with LOUD to tap into the LATAM market
The involvement of LOUD in the venture has strategic significance for its flagship Battle Royale game. The company is looking to expand into the LATAM market, known for a strong community in the gaming and esports space, by scaling the company’s game development capabilities and investing in top-tier talent.
Founded in 2019, LOUD has become one of the fastest-growing esports organisations in Latin America. In 2022, the organisation was the most tweeted about following competitive success across VALORANT, League of Legends, and the Brazilian Free Fire League. The organisation has also been bridging the gap between traditional sports and gaming by bringing in Brazilian professional footballer Vinicius Jr as co-owner of the organisation at the end of 2023.
Roby John, CEO and Co-Founder of SuperGaming, commented on the milestone: “We are at an inflection point where India’s role in gaming evolves from a consumer market to a driving force in innovation, and this investment fuels that transition.
“‘Indus Battle Royale’ is just our beginning. It is a showcase of quality and scale that we can achieve. But our deeper mission is to empower the gaming ecosystem through SuperPlatform. We’re providing developers worldwide with the tech backbone to bring their most ambitious visions to life, including seamless integration of Web3.”
