After an explosive reveal trailer that was all about the story mode and the new fictional conflict at the center of Battlefield 6, we got out first look at the revamped but familiar multiplayer (watch the trailer below) waiting for us in a few days in the game’s open beta. Now, we’ve also received a number of important answers straight from the horse’s mouth.

DICE producer Alexia Christofi, who’s been quite open on X/Twitter after the game’s reveal, has been answering some burning Qs from fans and more casual players alike, starting with the nature of the crossplay that will be implemented from the get-go.

In most online games, crossplay is on or off, meaning you can choose to either play with people on your platform only or all platforms. You can’t have crossplay between only PlayStation and Xbox, for example. According to Christofi, that’s how it’ll work in BF6: You can either limit yourself to your platform or play alongside everyone else. No middle ground.

Regarding communication options, players are worried after past Battlefield games often missing the mark at launch, but Battlefield Studios aren’t messing around: Text chat for every player in the match plus voice chat (VoIP) with four different audio options will be available at launch. Christofi confirmed their inclusion, and Battlefield Bulletin expanded on the VoIP details.

As for the traditional server browser that’ll be front and center of the experience across all platforms on top of the quicker matchmaking option, the main differences between past ones and BF6’s will be putting BF Portal (where custom content & rulesets are shared) at the center, awarding more XP across more different modes, a bigger focus on player choice, better filters, and persistent servers (you’ll be able to stick with the same players round after around).

Battlefield 6 launches on October 10, 2025, on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
