SEGA revealed the release date for Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage at Evo 2025 as well as an upcoming closed beta for the updated game.
Virtua Fighter 5 will be launched digitally for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on October 30th, 2025 and then Nintendo Switch 2 at a later time. Ahead of the release, the FGC can try out the closed beta planned for early September.
Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage Features Updated Gameplay
A trailer was shared during SEGA’s Evo 2025 panel that showcased a lot of new content for fans of the fighting game series. This includes gameplay opportunities for both multiplayer and solo grinding.
Virtua Fighter 5 came out in 2006 followed by Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O in 2021. Now, the FGC is getting the next iteration of Virtua Fighter 5, featuring brand new gameplay elements that freshen up the series.
For the first time ever, Virtua Fighter 5 will feature crossplay. This means that players from any console will be able to compete against one another online. With rollback support, the online play should be smooth, reliable, and accurate. This could make Virtua Fighter 5 a good candidate for a new fighting game esport title.
A new single-player mode was also revealed, World Stage. This mode has you playing against some of the world’s best fighters. No, not just characters — the CPUs will be based on real-life pro players, allowing you to play against the best-of-the-best and learn their play styles.
Join the Virtua Fighter Discord server to submit the player you’d like to see appear in World Stage as a fighter. This can be done from August 1st until August 23rd.
Long-time antagonist Dural will also be added to Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage as a playable character for the very first time. He will be a paid DLC, available when the game launches on October 30th. Players who spend $7.99 can instantly add him to the roster.
Pre-orders are already available for those interested in experiencing the next level of competition for Virtua Fighter 5. The standard and the 30th Anniversary Edition are both available, with the latter costing $49.99. This version comes with the Legendary pack, Yakuza Series collaboration pack, the swimsuit costume set, soundtrack collection and ranking titles, along with pre-production artwork. The standard edition can be digitally downloaded for $19.99.
However, players that already own the PlayStation 4 version of Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown can purchase the PlayStation 5 version of R.E.V.O. World Stage for $9.99. Steam users can upgrade for free.
