Battlefield 6: Price leak causes outrage among fans, but EA immediately reassures them: ‘There will be no price increase.’
Battlefield 6 will not cost £80 after all. A leak sparked a debate about premium content, DLCs and battle passes.
EA announced at an investor conference that it currently has no plans to adjust its price to $80 or €80 for full-price games.
It can therefore be assumed that the leaked prices for Battlefield 6 of up to 80 euros are not correct.
EA CEO Andrew Wilson responded to a question at the conference about price increases to 80 euros by default from competitors such as Nintendo in relation to BF6:
We are not planning any price changes at the moment – at least for the moment. […] We will continue to exhaust different pricing models in the future to deliver strong value to our customers, but no dramatic changes are planned at the moment.
Xbox had recently withdrawn the price change to 80 euros after fan criticism surrounding The Outer Worlds 2. Randy Pitchford from Gearbox had also brought up 80 euros for Borderlands 4, but in the end it remained at 70 euros. New games for the Switch 2, such as Mario Kart World, already cost 80 euros.
Original message from 29 July:
Even before the multiplayer reveal of Battlefield 6 on 31 July, the presumed price tag of the military shooter is causing plenty of conversation.
Because as a leak reveals in advance, Battlefield 6 will probably cost up to 80 euros in the basic version.
What exactly leaked?
As Dealabs Magazine reports, citing a Telegram group of credible leakers, the following prices are to apply (not officially confirmed):
Standard Edition
- PC: 70 euros
- Xbox Series: 80 euros
- PS5: 80 euros
Phantom Edition
- PC: £100
- Xbox Series: £110
- PS5: £110
An upgrade to the Phantom Edition costs around £30.
Is 80 euros the new full price?
EA could now actually go through with what Microsoft was only recently dissuaded from doing after great fan criticism: to raise the full price for new games to 80 euros – at least on consoles.
What is included in the more expensive Phantom Edition is not yet known. According to reports, however, it will not be a traditional Collector’s Edition with physical extras, but a digital deluxe variant with additional in-game content.
However, there will be no early access (the so-called Advanced Access) for additional money: All editions should be able to start playing at the same time as the release.
According to leaks, this will fall on 11 October 2025.
On Reddit, the price is already causing heated discussions. For example, many think that 80 euros are generally too high for a standard version.
One user comments: ‘At this price, I wish you good luck, I’m out.’ Someone else answers, ‘I learned my lesson last time not to buy a £100 game.’
The debate also raises the question of how future content will be offered after release. After 2018, Battlefield ditched the old premium model with map packs for real money in favour of free content replenishment via seasons.
Since then, the system has been financed by skin sales and Battle Passes – a now widely established model, e.g. in Call of Duty, Fortnite, Rainbow Six Siege X or Hunt: Showdown.
So what’s in the upgrade to the Phantom version? ‘It’s probably the Battle Pass or something in that environment,’ one user suspects.
‘I don’t believe in paid DLC maps in 2025, they split the players. This seems to be a model of the past,’ suspects another fan.
