A subscription that’s especially worthwhile in August
Just in time for the start of the month and the 15th anniversary of PlayStation Plus, Sony has a new selection of games in store for subscribers. Those with the Essential plan can look forward to an unusually strong mix this time around: hardcore, anime, and dark fairy tales collide in August 2025 – at no extra cost.
The game that is likely to attract the most attention is Lies of P. The action RPG from South Korean studio Neowiz has quickly gained a loyal fan base thanks to its Soulslike mechanics and dark interpretation of the Pinocchio legend. Critics particularly praised the atmosphere, the combat system, and the balance between challenge and fairness. For PlayStation players, access via PS Plus is now the perfect way to get started – especially since the game recently received a major DLC.
But there’s also something new away from fairy tale horror. The PvP-heavy survival game “DayZ” brings its merciless zombie apocalypse to PlayStation consoles – with full server operation and a deep crafting system. It remains one of the few games that continues to impress even after years with its unpredictability and brutal tension. If you want to survive, you need allies – and strong nerves.
What else Sony has in store
The third title in the PS Plus lineup is a treat for anime fans. That’s because My Hero One’s Justice 2 lets you battle it out in fast-paced 3D arenas with characters from the My Hero Academia universe. The special attacks are spectacular and the controls are straightforward – ideal for couch co-op and series junkies who want to be heroes themselves.
All three games will be available on PlayStation Store from August 5 and can be downloaded by subscribers to the Essential, Extra, and Premium plans. The games will remain in your library for as long as your subscription is active.
And to mark this milestone anniversary, Sony has put together a digital gift: a package of exclusive PSN avatars that reference hit games such as
God of War, Hogwarts Legacy, and Cyberpunk 2077. These cosmetic extras are not only intended for fans, but also show how far the PS Plus journey has come in 15 years.
