The last week of July brings exciting new releases to Steam: from the world of The Hobbit to cool mech battles.

The last week of July 2025 brings plenty of variety to Steam: From the tranquil world of hobbits to hardcore mech and ninja action to dark survival horror trips, there’s something for everyone.

Like every Monday, we present the most exciting new Steam releases of the week – and this time we start with a real oasis of well-being for Lord of the Rings fans.

Highlight of the week: Tales of the Shire

(Genre: Life Sim – Developer: Wētā Workshop – Release: July 29, 2025 (Steam)

Tales of the Shire takes you right into the heart of the Shire. Forget orcs, ringwraiths, and Sauron – here, it’s all about the simple pleasures of Hobbit life. Create your own Hobbit, furnish your cottage with care, plant pumpkins and carrots in the garden, fish in the babbling brook, and whip up delicious stews for your neighbors.

The goal: With your help, the village of Wasserau should grow and flourish. New friendships, little stories, and legendary food take center stage here. If you can’t get enough of relaxing games like Stardew Valley or Animal Crossing, you’re guaranteed to feel right at home here—especially if you’re a Lord of the Rings fan.

  • FUMES (Early Access): In FUMES, you equip your vehicle with deadly weapons and roam endless post-apocalyptic desert areas in fast-paced vehicle battles. In this single-player car action game, you engage in heated street battles with enemy convoys, collect upgrades for your car, and even reduce huge boss machines to rubble.
  • Recharge (Early Access): Small cars, big fun? Recharge lets you race remote-controlled cars on miniature race tracks. Tune your little vehicle, adjust the suspension and engine, and then race through courses modeled after real locations, from indoor tracks in your living room to off-road tracks in your backyard.
  • Primal Planet: As a Stone Age adventurer, you explore a primeval world, gather resources, and craft tools to survive. The game combines classic Metroidvania action with survival and crafting elements: you hunt prehistoric creatures, build camps and equipment, and gradually discover new skills. Especially cute: there’s even an option to hug your family!

  • Grounded 2 (Early Access): The surprising miniature survival hit of 2022 enters the next round. In Grounded 2, you’re shrunk to the size of an ant once again – but this time, you’ll be exploring far more than just your backyard. Obsidian’s open-world survival game takes you to a gigantic sandbox world full of dangers and secrets. Together with up to three friends, you’ll gather materials, build bases between oversized blades of grass, equip yourself with new weapons and armor, and face off against giant insects. New in the sequel are tamable buggies – small beetles that you can raise and even use as mounts. Their abilities help you in combat and resource gathering.

  • Terminull Brigade: Free2Play co-op shooter for roguelike fans, in which you and up to three teammates engage in futuristic battles. Each run brings new upgrades and weapon skills that you retain between runs to help you progress further the next time you play. Terminull Brigade is funded through optional cosmetics, and according to publisher Level Infinite, all gameplay content will be available for free.

  • Night Club Simulator (Early Access): Here you can open your own nightclub with friends. With a lot of hard work and creativity, you can turn a run-down dive bar into a trendy dance temple: renovate the rooms, decorate the dance floor, install cool lighting effects, and hire DJs to get the crowd going. But nightlife has its pitfalls – you have to keep order live in the game! Throw out drunk troublemakers, collect empty glasses, repair broken equipment, and always keep an eye on your guests’ satisfaction.
  • Live Lens Bodycam: This shooter puts you in the shoes of a SWAT officer whose missions are experienced from the perspective of a body camera – similar to the viral bodycam shooter videos à la Unrecord. Here you complete dangerous missions, be it hostage situations, drug raids or armed robberies. Thanks to the special camera angle, the missions feel frighteningly real: a shaky first-person view, glare from flashlights, and authentic radio communications create an intense atmosphere. Live Lens Bodycam offers both PvE missions against AI criminals and PvP battles in which two teams of special forces face off on urban maps.

    • Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound: Cult ninja Kenji returns: In this hard-hitting 2D hack-and-slash game with retro pixel graphics, you face demons, wield your katana, and use spectacular moves such as wall runs and air combos. Thanks to the dual character system with Kunoichi Kumori and extremely difficult boss fights, you’re guaranteed to get that classic Ninja Gaiden feeling.
    • SWAT Commander (Early Access): In this tactical shooter, you lead a special police unit and take on serious criminals. Either alone with an AI team or with up to four other players, you plan every mission down to the last detail: Before the mission begins, you equip your squad with weapons, protective vests, and special equipment. Then you storm buildings, secure hostages, and overpower suspects—all while following the rules and avoiding collateral damage as much as possible, of course.
    • Frosthaven (Early Access): Gloomhaven fans have been waiting a long time for Frosthaven, the sequel to the successful dungeon crawler board game, which is now also available as a PC game. The early access version initially includes a selection of mercenaries, monsters, and missions from the huge board game and lets you fight turn-based tactical battles alone or in co-op mode. With your band of heroes, you venture into the frozen wilderness of the north, fight undead creatures, cultists, and dangerous creatures, and use cards to decide your actions. Every decision is permanent: between missions, you build the eponymous village of Frosthaven, make story decisions, and improve your characters.

    • Heartworm: Pure survival horror in authentic PS1 retro style – with optional tank controls! As a young protagonist named Sam, you explore an abandoned, supposedly haunted house deep in the mountains to come to terms with the death of your grandfather. But what begins as a desperate attempt to make peace with the past quickly unfolds into a terrifying nightmare.
    • Mecharashi: Mecharashi is a turn-based mech tactical RPG that is sure to make the hearts of Mechwarrior and Front Mission fans beat faster. You command a team of powerful giant robots that you can assemble and equip as you see fit before each mission. The unique selling point is a detailed part destruction system: you can target and sever the limbs or weapon systems of enemy mechs to render them incapable of combat – but of course you must also protect your own units from such damage.

    • Prospector: Fancy some interplanetary industrial sandbox fun? Prospector combines open-world survival with base building and automation à la Factorio. As the eponymous prospector, you are tasked by interstellar colonies with mining raw materials in unknown worlds and delivering them to your clients. You land on a colorful but hostile planet and start by building a small base. From there, you explore the surroundings, always accompanied by your helpful robot buddy, who assists you in gathering resources and defending your base. Soon, your outposts grow into automated factories—complete with lots of conveyor belts, of course.
