Publisher and developer Bloober Team today published an extended gameplay trailer for upcoming third-person survival horror game Cronos: The New Dawn, giving us a better look at the title’s otherworldly environments, oppressive atmosphere, and the horrifying foes we’ll face when it launches later this year.
The title revolves around a protagonist known as The Traveler, who searches the ravaged world of the future for time rifts that send them back to 1980s-era Poland. There, he must extract the essences of key people as the world is consumed by a cataclysmic event known as The Change.
Cronos: The New Dawn’s Extended Gameplay Trailer
Cronos: The New Dawn’s extended gameplay trailer begins with The Traveler slowly advancing through an environment shrouded in darkness, with only the silhouette of a floating island and a block of buildings that’s certainly seen better days being visible from afar.
Using their weapon, they interact with a yellow orb, which turns the island into a makeshift means of traversal. Their suit then allows them to jump to a white-green square platform located on the distant ruined building.
Inside, we experience a brief, but horrifying flashback before the next section sees the protagonist using another of the platforms to shift their orientation inside the building. Shortly after, they face their first enemy – a fleshy amalgam has no trouble crawling across walls.
Although easily dispatched using The Traveler’s pistol, finishing the monster off with a grenade that sets them on fire is fairly important since, when in groups, other enemies can merge with their fallen friends unless burned.
A latter enemy in Cronos: The New Dawn’s extended gameplay trailer shoots acidic projectiles at The Traveler before being introduced to the firepower of an assault rifle-style gun that alternates between firing bullets and small rockets.
We also get a glimpse at the weapon upgrading interface that’s reminiscent of Resident Evil 4’s and only accessible via dedicated stations. A crafting system then lets us stock up on consumables and ammo while on the go.
The 10-minute video’s second half is dedicated to entering a time rift that takes us to the past. After a bout of atmospheric exploration and a tense confrontation against several shambling but resilient opponents, The Traveler encounters their biggest challenge yet.
Cronos: The New Dawn’s extended gameplay trailer has a rather slow pace throughout, making both movement and combat look rather weighty and impactful. Its blend of Eastern European brutalism and retro-futurist aesthetics successfully create environments that feel plausible and familiar despite their supernatural elements.
It will be interesting to see how well it all translated when we get to control The Traveler ourselves but, in the meantime, you can watch Cronos: The New Dawn’s extended gameplay trailer below. The title is slated for a fall 2025 release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
