EPIC 45: JACKZ expresses disappointment at default loss ruling

FUT esports player, Audric ‘JACKZ’ Jug, took to X/twitter to express frustration with the ruling to grant Bezos Bois a default victory over FUT following the French roster failing to be in the server in time to start the match.

In a now-deleted tweet, the Frenchman stated it was “totally our fault,” but found the ruling disappointing due to its consequences on the group, as it left them adrift of Alliance at the time.

“Having a forfeit in LAN, when all 10 players are present at the same place and all 10 players agree to play the match? Yes, we’re sorry we missed the match page timer, and it’s totally our fault… But this is the most important match that determines our second place in the group… There’s only bo1 and 1 bo3 left, so there’s plenty of time to fit that into the schedule. Please @EPIC.LAN”

Ultimately, FUT advanced second in their group. Having already lost to Alliance, who went undefeated, the ruling did not prevent them winning the group, but did contribute to them starting in the Lower Bracket for the Elimination Stage.

EPIC.LAN provided the following quote on the matter: “We operated within the guidelines of our rulebook.”

JACKZ and British Caster, index, exchange tweets over the default ruling

Quote-tweeting the initial tweet, UK caster Harry ‘index’ Bayliss reacted to the tweet, stating, “Trying to publicly pressure a TO to change a verdict when you’re clearly at fault is pretty cringe ngl. The schedule is strict because there’s a LOT of games being played, especially on day 1. It’s not hard to show up on time”

JACKZ clarified that players were there, but not ready, as they did not have the match page ready.

There were people on the PC but we weren’t on the web page to validate because we didn’t know that their game was finished and we had to wait 1 hour because of a forfeit by the team. Nobody came to see us to warn us, it was a lack of carelessness. The decision wasn’t very fair,…

JACKZ ultimately conceded that, while the French roster was ultimately at fault, stating that the decision was “not my vision of fair play and the values that are supposed to animate our weekend around the game we all love.”

We were wrong not to have been fully focused during those few minutes when the match page was in, it’s just not my vision of fair play and the values that are supposed to animate our weekend around a game we all love. Good day to you

The exchange ultimately led to Vitality IGL Dan ‘apEX’ Madesclaire tweeting “Calm down fingername” at index, a humorous poke at the caster’s in-game name.

While JACKZ expressed frustration at the decision, the former G2 player stated in another tweet, “Love the vibes tho” in regards to the event.
