CAG Osaka Rainbow Six player Sho ‘BlackRay’ Hasegawa has been arrested by the Tokyo Metropolitan Police for alleged kidnapping and coercion, according to local reports.

The arrest was reportedly made on July 16th, 2025, when Hasegawa and six other individuals were detained for allegedly confining and blackmailing a man in his thirties.

In an article published by Japanese outlet Jiji Press, Hasegawa can be seen entering a police station alongside the other suspects who were accused of committing crimes against a construction project contractor.

The report reveals the player was in involved in allegedly pouring boiling water over the victim in addition to causing serious injuries with a hammer. The suspects reportedly threatened the victim to pay them more money, totalling approximately ¥2m (~£10,014).

CAG Osaka has yet to comment on the situation. However, the Japanese organisation has announced it has withdrawn from the Stage 1 APAC North Playoffs set to take place on July 20th, 2025.

“We regret to inform you that we will be withdrawing from the Asia Pacific League 2025 Stage 1 APAC North Playoffs scheduled for this weekend,” read a statement.

On July 18th, the team’s page on Ubisoft’s website revealed that BlackRay has departed the roster. A replacement for the player has yet to be revealed.

What’s Next For CAG Osaka?

Following BlackRay’s arrest and subsequent departure from the organisation, it’s unclear what the future holds for CAG Osaka’s Rainbow Six roster.

As a result of withdrawing from the Stage 1 Playoffs, the team is unable to compete for a chance to earn a place at the Esports World Cup and earn any SI Points that determine which teams qualify for the Six Invitational, Rainbow Six’s biggest esports tournament.

The team began the 2025 season on the front foot, scoring a second-place finish at RE:L0:AD 2025 in May.
