Assassin’s Creed live-action series officially confirmed by Netflix

Blood, control, destiny – and more than just action

It’s been a long time coming, but now it’s finally happening: Netflix has officially given the green light to production of the Assassin’s Creed live-action series. The two showrunners, David Wiener (“Brave New World”) and Roberto Patino (“Westworld”), have been given the green light – and they have big plans. Their vision is not just an action adaptation with parkour and blades, but a dark character drama that moves between historical shadows and modern abysses.

The project was first announced in 2020, but since then it has been conspicuously quiet. Now it’s clear that intensive work has been going on behind the scenes – and the script seems to be more than just fan service.

Assassin’s Creed on Netflix: violence meets deeper questions

Wiener and Patino describe their adaptation as a “highly suspenseful thriller” that reinterprets the eternal conflict between the Templars and the Assassins. Two factions, one secret war – between absolute control and a radical desire for freedom. They don’t want to rely solely on spectacular assassinations and time-traveling missions, but also on themes such as identity, the search for meaning, and the fragility of human connections.

“It’s about sex, power, greed, and revenge,” say the creators in a statement. But at its core, it’s about something bigger: What happens to us as a society when we stop trusting each other?

There is no release date, no trailer, and no cast announcement yet – but the start of production alone shows that Netflix and Ubisoft are no longer putting off this prestigious project. Whether Altair, Ezio, or completely new faces will be involved remains to be seen.
One thing is certain: the series will be darker, more complex, and more multi-layered than expected.
