Ruddy Sack goes into ‘hiatus’ as DonJake comments on NLC

UK esports organisation Ruddy Sack has announced that the brand will go on ‘hiatus’ for the remainder of 2025.

The organisation will go by Ruddy Esports, as the partnership with Christian ‘IWDominate’ Rivera and Jakob ‘YamatoCannon’ Mebdi comes to an end.

Owner Jake ‘DonJake’ Morley has said that the partnership may return after being reviewed for the 2026 season.

Ruddy Esports returns to its British roots

In a statement made on the official Ruddy Esports Twitter account, it was announced that Ruddy Sack would go on ‘hiatus’.

The partnership between Jake ‘DonJake’ Morley, Christian ‘IWDominate’ Rivera, and Jakob ‘YamatoCannon’ Mebdi has ended by mutual agreement.

Ruddy Sack, now going by the former name Ruddy Esports, will continue to compete in the Northern League of Legends Championship (NLC) Summer Split.

DonJake has not ruled out the potential return of the partnership for the 2026 season.

For now, Ruddy Esports returns to a completely British-owned organisation with its original owners.

The late announcement came as a shock to many as DonJake shared the reasons behind the decision.

DonJake comments on streamer teams’ impact on NLC

One of the key points DonJake made was the presence of what he called ‘streamer teams’ in the NLC and their long-term impact on the league.

In the announcement, he suggested, “I don’t think it’s something that’s necessarily going to last.”

Since the start of the NLC this year, many teams have been able to pull in big names to the league.

Most notably, Los Ratones, with popular British streamer Marc ‘Caedrel’ Lamont, who brought in players with highly established audiences.

Other teams like Nord Esports and Ruddy Sack likewise brought in their own heavy hitters in response to Los Ratones.

Since then, the NLC has become Europe’s most popular LoL league, as fans flocked to watch their favourite personalities compete.

In a stream he conducted later on, DonJake addressed Tim ‘Nemesis’ Lipovšek’s comments that Europe would become a content region.

Claiming that the quality of player development would decline in favour of building brands with existing fan bases.

While agreeing with this point, DonJake elaborated that the model of ‘streamer teams’ was unsustainable and would likely end this year.

Stating that players are now realising the lack of personal return, which would ultimately be unsustainable.

“I think that if LR leaves [after] next split or next year, this is the last you’re going to see of streamer teams.

At least in the current capacity that they exist.”

Ruddy Esports in NLC Summer

DonJake will now work to rebuild the team ahead of the start of the NLC Summer Split.

It was reported and later seemingly confirmed that DonJake will take up the jungle position in the team.

He also teased that British top laner Callum ‘Hypa’ Wood is also set to join the team.

The remainder of the Ruddy Esports roster is yet to be announced before their first match scheduled for tomorrow evening.
