Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War – Definitive Edition was announced in late May during the latest Skulls event, and while we were able to chat with design director Philippe Boulle on how Relic had approached the long-awaited remaster, we weren’t able to extract a potential release window from him. Now, we finally know it’s set to arrive on August 14.
So far, the re-release of the RTS classic is only set to come out on PC (through Steam and GOG), and the launch price will be $29,99, which is less than some players feared but still more than the free upgrade some Anniversary Edition owners were wishing for. We’ve received word those players will receive a 30% off discount should they choose to make the jump though. “This upgrade offer will be available on both Steam and GOG and will remain active for the foreseeable future.”
To celebrate the release date announcement, Relic has also shared an upscaled 4K version of the original cutscene trailer we all know and love:

“The Definitive Edition includes all the Dawn of War and Standalone Expansion content; 4 Classic Dawn of War Campaigns, 9 Armies, and over 200 Maps all in one game. The game will feature 4K support, upscaled textures (4x the originals), and image-based lighting for a higher level of fidelity while retaining the classic experience. World lighting, unit reflections, and shadows have all been improved, and new unit gloss and emissive lighting will faithfully enhance the moment-to-moment action. An improved gameplay camera will show the battlefield like never before and the HUD and screen layout have been optimized for widescreen viewing. It has also been upgraded to a 64-bit platform to support the ongoing efforts of the modding community and will be compatible with over 20-years of lovingly crafted community mods. In addition and responding to the community, we’ve added pathfinding improvements to this list of enhancements!”
Last but not least, we’ve also received confirmation the devs have added “pathfinding improvements” to the game following player suggestions and requests over the last few weeks.
