Gen.G’s Jeong ‘Chovy’ Ji-hoon has given advice to LEC teams on Marc ‘Caedrel’ Lamont’s LoL MSI stream.
The Korean midlaner joined the co-streamer after a very close five-game series against T1.
It was the reigning World Champions, T1, versus reigning MSI champions, Gen.G, in an exhilarating match-up in which the latter came out on top.
Chovy and Gen.G have now qualified for the LoL MSI 2025 final, where they’ll face either Anyone’s Legend, Bilibili Gaming or T1 again.
When asked what is the hardest part of facing T1, Chovy said: “They’re sneaky.
“Their sneaky objective tries, especially Atakhans and Barons, they just start them off very sneakily. That’s the annoying part.”
T1 have a well-earned reputation of being extremely resilient and difficult to take down, hence why the series went to all five games.
And Chovy told Caedrel, the secret to excelling in these long series is not analysing your play:
“Based on my previous international event experience, which I have quite a lot, I realised going back to your in-game play doesn’t really help.
“We try to move on, try to focus on our mental state. If we feel small, our coaches try to refresh us and make us feel more confident, then we move on to the draft talk.”
Meanwhile, morale in Europe is severely down as LEC teams reached an all-time low at MSI 2025.
Having suffered watching LEC teams lose every main-stage series at MSI, Caedrel asked Chovy what LEC teams can improve.
Surprisingly, Chovy wasn’t as pessimistic about EMEA’s talent:
“We played against them [LEC teams] in scrims and competitively. I do believe that they have potential.
“The one advice I can give to them is that drafting is important right now, picks and bans. This is advice to every other region: drafting is important.”
Considering Movistar KOI tried to ban out top-laners versus CTBC Flying Oyster and left open K’Sante, he might have a point.
Are LEC teams lazier than LPL and LCK teams?
On a previous stream, Caedrel asked the Anyone’s Legend coach to give LEC teams advice.
Wong ‘Tabe’ Pak Kan had different views to Chovy on the LEC team’s problems:
“I think it is very unfortunate for G2 and MKOI. I think the most important thing is to dig into why they lost. Most of the time, they are not losing from the draft; maybe it is the in-game decision-making.
“I think if EU players invest more time into thinking why they lost, they will improve, because, for example, my team, we really invest a lot of time. It is tiring, but if you invest time, you have hope. If you’re lazy, you have no hope at all.”
Unsurprisingly, a lot of community members focussed in on the lazy comment and alleged that LEC pros don’t train properly.
Karmine Corp botlaner Caliste ‘Caliste’ Henry-Hennebert actually agreed:
“I think it’s mostly because there’s not enough pressure on players… There are players, certain names, who don’t work and are just there for the paycheck.
“If you had, I don’t know, coaches or staff from the organisation push them or tell them either you work or you’re fired, that would really change things.
“I think that in the scene overall, people are too nice, like way too soft. If you compare it to soccer, for example, it’s like a fairy tale world.”
You’re not able to bet on LEC teams internationally anymore but MSI is still ongoing.
