Switch 2: Nintendo itself “leaks” 5 new N64 games, and we’re in for a real treat

The Japanese manufacturer itself may have already revealed which classics will soon be landing on your Switch.

Life lesson of the day: Sometimes it pays to take a closer look.

This applies not only to the best-before date on your groceries or the small print when buying a washing machine, but also to Nintendo’s advertising materials.

The Japanese manufacturer itself has apparently already revealed which games will soon be available for its in-house N64 emulator. As always, keep in mind that you must have an active Switch Online subscription to play the classics.

Also, keep in mind that as long as Nintendo hasn’t made an official announcement, this is just an unconfirmed rumor, even if the evidence seems crystal clear.

A long-time fan wish is finally coming true

Since the launch of Nintendo emulators, there has been one game that fans have been asking for over and over again: Donkey Kong 64. With around 5.2 million units sold, it is the seventh most successful title for the N64 and has become a cult game mainly because of its vast array of collectible items. And it looks like it’s finally happening in the near future!

The potential leak comes from Nintendo itself. The manufacturer recently released a trailer (see above) showing the new CRT graphics filter for the N64 emulator.

A Reddit user took the trouble to compare the blurry background at 0:40 with official game covers.

This allowed them to identify five classics that will apparently be available in the retro offering for Switch and Switch 2 owners:

  • Donkey Kong 64
  • Super Smash Bros.
  • Rayman 2: The Great Escape
  • Glover
  • Forsaken 64

You can see for yourself in the embedded Reddit post. In our opinion, the situation is pretty clear – the covers fit the background like a glove:

When can we expect a release?

A release date for the new N64 games is easy to find. They will most likely be announced during the next Nintendo Direct and will be available to subscribers shortly after the presentation.

The problem is quite different: When is the next Nintendo Direct? Unfortunately, we cannot answer that question either. Rumor has it that it could be as early as this week, but nothing has been announced yet. It’s quite possible that Nintendo will wait for the release of Donkey Kong Bananza (July 17, 2025) before turning its attention to new announcements – and thus to the above-mentioned N64 games.

Would you be excited to see Donkey Kong 64 on your Switch, or would you prefer another classic? If so, which one? Let us know in the comments!
