League of Legends legend Faker wins titles on an assembly line and millions in prize money – without knowing Arcane or reading the lore

When you hear the name Faker you think of legendary status, world titles and the “Unkillable Demon King”. Lee Sang-Hyeok is the face of League of Legends, he has dominated the scene for over a decade and has won more world championships than any other pro.

However, in a recent interview with Hotspawn he surprised us with a revelation that made many fans smile: the best LoL player of all time is apparently hardly interested in the trappings of League of Legends.

The lore doesn’t matter at all to the best LoL player

Faker is known for his ice-cold precision and his absolute will to win. But away from the virtual playing field, he doesn’t seem to care about the big universe surrounding League of Legends. In an interview, he was asked which champion he would like to see in his own animated series. His answer:

I know the champions and their abilities very well, but I don’t know anything about their backgrounds or stories. I don’t know anything about TV shows either. That’s like asking an Iron player how to play League well.

His other answers in the interview with Hotspawn also show: Faker only cares about the game in a competitive sense. When asked about the official League of Legends lore books, of which there are now two, he replied dryly: “If they’re good, maybe I’ll give them a try.”

And what about the famous Splash Arts, the elaborately designed champion illustrations? Is there perhaps one that Faker might find quite nice?

“I honestly don’t really pay attention to the splash arts, but I worked on my Ahri skin, so I’ll take that.”

Even when it comes to the development of League of Legends as a global phenomenon, Faker also remains sober: “I’ve honestly never really cared about other aspects of League of Legends. But I hope that Riot’s efforts can inspire a lot of people to play League.”

While millions of fans immerse themselves in the stories, series and books surrounding the successful League of Legends game, the Korean prefers to concentrate fully on what has made him a legend over the last few years: the game itself, the mechanics, the winning. Apparently, he seems to be doing pretty well with that.
