T1 and GenG secure additional LCK slot at Worlds 2025

An additional fourth team from South Korea will compete at this year’s League of Legends (LoL) World Championship.

The extra team slot is a result of the efforts of T1 and GenG victories at this year’s Mid-Season Invitational (MSI).

MSI continues with Bilibili Gaming going up against FlyQuest in the lower bracket of the tournament.

T1 and GenG persevere at MSI

Teams from South Korea’s LoL Champions Korea (LCK) were slated as tournament favourites.

With T1’s international reputation speaking for itself, and GenG’s dominant performance.

However, their MSI tournament runs didn’t pan out as well as hoped.

GenG were the first to take to the stage against G2 Esports.

The team seemed uncharacteristically poor despite taking the series 3-1.

With mid laner Jeong ‘Chovy’ Ji-hoon struggling to stay awake between games.

Meanwhile, it seemed that regular season T1 turned up for their first match against CTBC Flying Oyster (CFO).

T1 were expected to clean sweep CFO, but surprisingly continued to lose fights and games to the underdogs.

Eventually, T1 were able to pull out the victory thanks to winning the crucial team fights.

LCK earns additional team slot for 2025 Worlds

Having recovered from a rocky start, the LCK teams would face the best from China’s LoL Pro League (LPL).

GenG would go up against the first seed, Anyone’s Legend, in a tight best-of-five match.

Going the full distance to game five, it was GenG that came out on top.

Not before Anyone’s Legend exposed the weaknesses of the LCK first seed.

For T1, they were able to close out their match in a quick series against Bilibili Gaming.

Bilibili Gaming was unable to defeat T1, no matter how much of an advantage they had gained.

Both LCK teams now head into the upper bracket finals, and one step away from the Grand Final.

Their guaranteed spot in the Grand Final also secures an additional seed for the region at the upcoming LoL World Championship.

Currently, the LCK is highly contested with teams like NS RedForce, KT Rolster, and Dplus KIA all in the mix.

Teams compete at MSI for the 2025 Worlds spot

Teams are competing for more than the top prize and an extra slot for their region this year.

The winning team will also have a guaranteed place at the LoL World Championship later this year.

Elsewhere, Anyone’s Legend defeated CFO to proceed in the lower bracket.

Talking to Caedrel, their coach revealed the scrim schedule and advice for European LoL.

This year’s MSI has been a new low for the European LEC teams.

As both Movistar KOI and G2 Esports failed to win a single series in the bracket stage.

As MSI continues, T1 and GenG appear to be the favourites for LoL betting sites.

Meanwhile, the LPL’s Bilibili Gaming and Anyone’s Legend prepare to prove them wrong.

MSI continues in the early hours of tomorrow morning, as FlyQuest face Bilibili Gaming at 1am BST.
