Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag remake leak straight from Edward Kenway’s mouth

When old legends resurface

The clues have been growing for months, but now the mystery surrounding a possible remake of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag has been given new impetus. A casual remark by Edward Kenway’s English voice actor is currently causing a stir. Matt Ryan chatted charmingly about the pirate game at a fan meeting – and let more slip than Ubisoft would probably like.

In a short clip on the TikTok channel therebelarchive , the actor is asked at the signing whether you need to have played Black Flag actually. Shis answer comes like a shot from a cannon: You should “maybe play through it again”. That alone could be dismissed as nostalgic fun – if it weren’t for the smug grin and his follow-up half-sentence that he wasn’t actually “allowed to say anymore”, but that there was a reason for his suggestion.

The fans have finally sensed the morning air. Although Ubisoft continues to avoid any official confirmation, the rumors surrounding a new edition are persistent – not least because the publisher is already working on remakes of other parts of the series.

Especially exciting: The first hints of a Black Flag remake, which could be developed internally under the code name “Obsidian” were already circulating in 2023. The fact that Ubisoft has remained silent so far does not necessarily mean that nothing is happening – on the contrary.

Assassin’s Creed, remake, Black Flag – how certain is the return?

Matt Ryan’s statement is by no means out of the blue. In recent years, Ubisoft has returned to its roots with Mirage the series already returned to old-school sneaking and assassination in 2023. A remake of the most popular pirate adventure would be the next logical step – also economically.

Assassin’s Creed 4 is not only a fan favorite, but was also a complete commercial success. The original sold over 15 million copies worldwide. Thanks to its open world, naval battles and charismatic protagonist, it is still considered one of the most varied games in the series to this day.

A remake would therefore not only bring back nostalgic players, but would also be able to shine on modern platforms – with better controls, new quests and graphical polish. The technology would be there, as would the demand anyway No official seal of approval has yet been given, but the signs are more than favorable: if a voice actor is already hoisting the sails, the course towards a remake should have long been set.
