Screenshots of a job advertisement have surfaced once again. This time, they suggest that Rockstar’s open-world giant is coming with its own app.
In this heat, the wait until the release of GTA 6 seems twice as long. To sweeten the sweat a little, some fans are reaching for their Sherlock Holmes hats and searching the Internet for clues. Because every little bit of information about Rockstar’s next huge hit makes the community jump for joy.
Now a job advertisement from Rockstar North is doing the rounds, looking for a “Mobile Engineer”.
The return of the companion app?
On Reddit, u/Gerald19901 shares the discovery of another user. According to this, Rockstar North is currently advertising a position for a “Mobile Engineer” – you can currently view this on rockstargames.com or even apply directly yourself if you happen to be in Edinburgh.
The job advertisement states more precisely:
Rockstar is looking for a talented Mobile Engineer with strong iOS and/or Android development skills to help us build and maintain our mobile platform, including our SDK, and build systems.
Although GTA 6 is not mentioned directly, a connection does not seem far-fetched. Rockstar North is currently said to be playing a leading role in the development of the open-world game. With less than a year to go before release, there may not be much time for other projects, which is why the community is now certain that a mobile engineer will be brought in to develop a companion app.
Such companion apps already existed for GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2. They gave you real-time access to interactive maps, for example, or allowed you to design your car license plates. However, the iFruit app for GTA 5 was discontinued in 2022.
Although these apps have not necessarily triggered waves of euphoria in the past (RDR: Companion has a 2.8-star rating on Google Play ), the community is relatively confident about GTA 6. In the Reddit thread linked above, fans are brainstorming how a companion app could be something groundbreaking.
One user has the idea that it would be cool if you could use the app to call a cab in the game. Others agree with him and expand the function to include complete control of the in-game cell phone with their own device.
