Nintendo’s president apologizes personally because the Switch 2 is simply too popular

The global demand has surprised Nintendo

The President of Nintendo has spoken to shareholders for the first time about the delivery situation of the Nintendo Switch 2.

Almost a month after its release, the Nintendo Switch 2 is still struggling with delivery problems. At the Annual General Meeting of Shareholders, Shuntaro Furukawa, President of Nintendo, commented on the delivery situation, among other things.

The global demand has surprised Nintendo

Despite its modest innovations, the Nintendo Switch 2 is already a hit. The new console was released on June 5, 2025 together with the highly anticipated Mario Kart World. However, it was already clear during the pre-orders that not all interested parties would receive a console right at launch.

Even now, at the end of the release month, the situation has hardly improved. The Switch 2 is only available in this country at irregular intervals and then only in relatively small quantities. The situation is no better in other countries.

Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa has now publicly commented on the delivery problems for the first time at the 85th Annual General Meeting of Shareholders. The X-user @NStyles accompanied the meeting in a long thread

現在、多くの国でSwitch2の供給を上回る需要があり、満たしきれていない。株主の方でも入手できていない方もいると存じている。

One of the questions is aimed directly at the launch of the Switch 2. The question asks whether the delivery problems are related to production capacity or a miscalculation of demand and whether there should be changes for future hardware launches.

Furukawa explains that demand for the new console had already far exceeded expectations in April 2025. Since then, several lottery procedures have been launched in the Nintendo Store to ensure that distribution is fair. The next lottery is due to take place in July.

In general, the situation is already improving, even if customers are barely aware of it. In the background, hard work is already being done to increase production so that as many consoles as possible can be delivered as quickly as possible.

Finally, the Nintendo President apologizes. The huge demand right at the start simply took the company by surprise.

How did it go for you? Did you receive your Switch 2 on release or are you still waiting for a console?
