Esports News UK was invited out to Zowie’s latest Sports Science Lab in Eindhoven, the Netherlands.
Along with several other media guests and influencers, representatives from Zowie presented their process and mindset.
Zowie, part of BenQ’s esports-focused brand, looks to use its newest Sports Science Lab to reach its partners within Europe more easily.
ZOWIE Sports Science Lab
The Sports Science Lab is the hub of Zowie’s research and development of esports athletes.
Zowie presents itself as a very serious brand that focuses on performance over everything else.
Taking pot shots at anything with RGBs or accessories at every chance they could.
This lab is the third in Zowie’s arsenal, having two other hubs in Taipei and Shanghai.
The creation of this new Sports Science Lab in BenQ’s head office in Eindhoven comes as part of Zowie’s global brand growth.
Thus, being closer to its European partners, including ESL’s Intel Extreme Masters (IEM) series.
With access to the best players from around the world, Zowie will have access to study peak performance.
At the end of the day, most players will agree that the peripherals they use are personal preference.
This is where Zowie’s research and development comes into play.
How ZOWIE Sports Science Lab works
The process begins with a scan of the player’s hand, which is then given to the software that tracks their hand and finger movements.
From there, a series of reflective markers are attached to the player’s arm, hand, and fingers.
An electroencephalogram (EEG) is also attached to the player’s arm to track the signals being sent during gameplay.
Once set up, they study the player’s grip, movement, and fatigue for later use in their product design.
Through previous research at their Sports Science Labs, Zowie has identified seven main variations of mouse grip.
Using this information, they’ve created different mice for each grip style.
Now Zowie’s main goal is to understand the point where fatigue sets in.
Using the data to help reduce fatigue and improve performance.
ZOWIE’s presence in esports
Zowie push as an esports brand has had a major presence within the Asian Pacific region.
Having partnerships with the Valorant Champions Tour (VCT) Pacific, alongside teams like Paper Rex and The MongolZ.
Conveniently or proof that their products work, Paper Rex has recently won VCT Masters Toronto, while The MongolZ made it to the Austin Major Grand Finals.
Zowie also supports esports events, with their latest being IEM Cologne as their main monitor provider.
Looking to continue their brand growth, it has also been confirmed that Zowie will be the main monitor sponsor for IEM China for the next three years.
They’ll also continue to support the Valorant esports scene as the season heads towards Valorant Champions Paris.
Meanwhile, VCT EMEA Stage 2 is set to return on Wednesday, July 16th.
