Hit strategy game publisher Hooded Horse has closed a deal with Ubisoft to publish the next entry in the long-running Heroes of Might and Magic series. Unfrozen’s Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era will be coming to Steam Early Access later this year.
First revealed in summer 2024, Olden Era aims to bring back the Heroes of Might and Magic series of turn-based fantasy strategy games to its roots, promising both solo and multiplayer battles and kingdom-ruling that aim to please strategy diehards.
We’ve been learning a lot about the game with numerous dev vlogs and other big videos, but the latest news still caught us by surprise and have filled us with extra hope. Today, July 1, it’s been revealed that “Hooded Horse is excited to announce that it has come to an agreement with Ubisoft and Unfrozen to serve as publisher for Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era.”
Despite the game’s focus on restoring some of the lost might and magic, we know Unfrozen is working on “new factions, biomes, and creatures” that populate the lands of Jadame, which had been referenced “but never explored” in the main Heroes of Might and Magic video game series.
“Heroes of Might and Magic is a legendary series, one that has a place in the hearts and childhoods of many gamers,” said Hooded Horse CEO Tim Bender as part of the announcement.
“We are thrilled to welcome Hooded Horse aboard to support the next chapter of Heroes of Might and Magic… Their passion for the franchise and strong connection with strategy communities make them the perfect complement to Unfrozen’s creative talent,” added Alain Corre, Chief Publishing Officer at Ubisoft.
We’re still waiting for a release date for this one, but at the time of writing, it seems the plan still is to launch it via early access at some point in 2025.
