Devastating result sees Virtus.pro miss first Marvel Rivals LAN

Virtus.pro, the team that has dominated Marvel Rivals esports events in Europe, has missed out on the Ignite Mid-Season Finals.

Stage 1 of Marvel Rivals Ignite, the game’s first major esports season with a $3 million (£2.2m), has now concluded in most regions.

In the EMEA Playoffs, VP were defeated 3-2 by Brr Brr Patapim twice and shockingly denied Mid-Season Finals qualification.

Well, that’s definitely not what we wanted.

Lost 2-3 against Br Br Patapim. We finished in 3rd place in the Marvel Rivals Ignite EMEA.

It has been confirmed that the $500k (£365k) Mid-Season Finals will be hosted in China as Marvel Rivals’ first esports LAN event.

But VP won’t be there despite winning every official tournament they had participated in up until this point.

They won the EMEA Season 1 Championship, the EMEA Invitational, and 12 European Rivals Fight Night events.

However, their first defeat has cost them dearly.

Patapim were able to narrowly get the better of VP twice as their plan of target-banning Philip ‘Phi’ Handke seemed effective.

Patapim, guided by British coach Salah Barakat who was Team Vitality’s first VCT EMEA coach, then got revenge on Rad EU to become EMEA champions.

The result has called into question the team distributions for the Mid-Season Finals as EMEA only gets two of the 10 slots while North America has been given three.

VP pro Finnbjörn ‘Finnsi’ Jónasson was vocal about this on Reddit after the event saying:

“Sadly, we fall short.

“It would have been nice if EMEA also had 3 spots since every top 3 EU team would beat every other team in the world.

“I will be very surprised if Brr Brr and Rad both don’t get top 2 in the China LAN.”

Confirmed Marvel Rivals Ignite Mid-Season Finals teams

The 10 teams competing at the Marvel Rivals Ignite 2025 Mid-Season finals are:

  • Sentinels (Americas)
  • 100 Thieves (Americas)
  • ENVY (Americas)
  • Brr Brr Patapim (EMEA)
  • Rad EU (EMEA)
  • REJECT (Asia)
  • Gen.G Esports (Asia)
  • Ground Zero Gaming (Oceania)
  • TBD (China)
  • TBD (China)

The two China teams will not be decided until July 20th.

That is surprsingly late and they won’t have much time to prepare considering the international event is supposed to take place in July as well.

Meanwhile, Sentinels are back on top of the AMERICAs as the region’s number one seed as they defeated 100 Thieves 4-3 in a thrilling final.

Meanwhile, the Korean Marvel Rivals super-team of Gen.G couldn’t claim Asia’s title after losing 4-3 to RIVAL.

As well as Patapim coach Salah, three British pros have qualifed for the event.

They are 100 Thieves’ Harvey ‘hxrvey’ Scattergood, ENVY’s Lucas ‘month’ Reynard, and Rad’s Max ‘fate’ Currie.
