Railway Empire 2 has been enjoying a good deal of success since its launch in 2023 despite some ups and downs, with all sorts of DLC packs taking the railway management tycoon to new places. Up next, its trains will be getting to China’s biggest locations with the Steel Dragons expansion.
Kalypso Media and developer Gaming Minds Studio have jointly announced this Far East DLC is coming as soon as October 28 to PC, Xbox One & Series X/S, and PS4/5.
“Lay the foundation for the world’s largest rail network, linking key cities and vital industries car by car across the vast and varied landscapes of China,” the press release teases. Below we’ve included the full list of new content and features (but in briefer fashion) shared with us:
- 8 new authentic Chinese locomotives such as the “Rocket of China” and the Shènglì 8.
- Shanghai, Peking and Lanzhou: The DLC introduces 3 comprehensive, fully voiced scenarios, “Humble Beginnings” (1880), “Journey to the West” (1890) and “Of Bicycles and Fireworks” (1900).
- The vast and varied landscapes of the Middle Kingdom await you on the regional map “China” – playable as one huge map and as 5 individual map sections.
- Transport more than 20 new regional products from traditional Medicine and mind-blowing Fireworks, to Bamboo, Gunpowder, and exquisite Silk Products.
- Pipa, Guzheng, and Suona: Over 15 themed music tracks and jingles inspired by traditional Chinese music to get you in the mood for the new setting.
Kalypso hasn’t revealed the price tag yet, but with past DLCs being in the $10 range, there’s no reason to expect a sudden price hike or drop with this one. Personally, we’re hoping it’s one of the better expansions and not a half-baked one; this setting deserves more attention in management sims and strategy games overall.
