Gotham comes back to life in Lego style

One year after its big gamescom announcement, Lego Batman: The Legacy of the Dark Knight is causing a stir once again. Warner Bros. and TT Games have released a behind-the-scenes video that delves deeper into the vision behind the project. On board are big names such as James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios, and DC President Jim Lee.
Their participation alone shows that the game aims to be more than just a typical action adventure. Jonathan Smith, creative director at TT Games, describes the project as “a tribute to all facets of the Dark Knight.” Instead of focusing on just one era, the game aims to combine references from all forms of media: from comics and movies to TV series and previous video games.
“Every generation of fans should be able to find their Batman moments here,” Smith emphasizes.

Visually, the game sticks with the popular voxel and Lego style, but for the first time, the open world is set to be bigger and more interactive than ever before. Gotham City becomes a setting that you don’t just marvel at, but where you can experience puzzles, secrets, and iconic locations for yourself.

“From roof to roof – with grappling hook and Batmobile”

The new gameplay features are particularly exciting. “Players can swing, glide, or drive through the area,” according to the video. Those who explore the city’s rooftops use Batman’s grappling hook, while those who love speed race through the streets in various Batmobiles or on Batcycles. The developers promise a dynamic combat system that combines classic Lego lightness with more action and tactical possibilities.

The Batcave is a real highlight. It serves not only as a place of retreat, but also as a customizable hub. Over 100 Batman suits and partner outfits from throughout Batman’s history can be collected and displayed there. Fans can look forward to a virtual museum that reflects Batman’s long history.

The release is planned for 2026 and will be available on all major platforms – from PC to PlayStation 5 to Nintendo Switch 2. With its mix of nostalgia, fan service, and new gameplay ideas,
Lego Batman: The Legacy of the Dark Knight could become one of the most exciting titles of the year.
