League of Legends world champion Jeong “Impact” Eon-young has revealed possible considerations of retiring as a professional player after announcing his departure from Team Liquid.

Impact joined Liquid in 2024 after long spells with Evil Geniuses and Cloud9, but described his stint with Liquid as a difficult one.

Impact describes “really rough” year on Team Liquid

“This year, I did get one win but honestly, it felt more like luck,” he said. “After that, things went downhill for both the team and for me. I lost a lot of confidence, and when that happened, my play just kept getting worse. It’s been a really rough year, one I never want to go through again.”

Despite a disappointing season, the 28-year-old made it clear he is not yet ready to walk away from the competitive scene entirely. “I kept asking myself over and over… should I keep playing? Try coaching? Or even do something completely different? I thought about it a lot. But deep down, it just doesn’t feel right to step away like this. I still believe I can play well, and I want to prove that. I’m not ready to give up yet.”

Hey everyone, it’s been a while. I just wanted to share some thoughts about this year and what’s next for me.

Impact and his Liquid team failed to qualify for the LTA Championship, which features the top six teams from across LTA North and LTA South, in which the top three teams earn qualification for the League of Legends World Championship.

He finished: “I don’t know what next year will look like. Maybe I’ll still be a player, maybe a coach, maybe something else.”

One of the most decorated players in League of Legends history, Impact won the 2013 World Championship with SK Telecom T1 and multiple LCS and LCK titles across his decade-long career. With his Team Liquid exit now confirmed, fans will be watching closely to see if 2026 marks the beginning of a new chapter — or, possibly, the end of a legendary one.
