GRID Acquires Bayes Esports Assets Following Liquidation

GRID has announced that it has acquired Bayes Esports assets following the company’s liquidation.

Bayes went into administration in May this year, and a court in Germany declared the company illiquid and over-indebted on August 1.

GRID said it will integrate Bayes’ technology into its GRID Bet division, which recently announced further expansion.

The technology includes live data trading solutions, prediction models, and fan engagement tools.

Moritz Maurer, Founder & CEO of GRID, commented, “The acquisition of Bayes assets further accelerates GRIDs capabilities to create value for rights holders in esports and shape the next phase of esports betting in particular.”

Links to the Bayes website now redirect to GRID, with the company’s landing page stating, “GRID strives to be the foundation of competitive gaming’s data-driven future.”

GRID Benefits From Bayes Failings

In addition to acquiring Bayes’ technology, GRID has hoovered up Bayes’ contracts.

Bayes signed partnerships with major organisations in the esports industry, including KRAFTON, Riot Games, and the Esports World Cup (EWC). The company was unable to maintain its growth, however, and GRID has taken over the deals.

Bayes’ agreement with Riot, signed in 2021, ended in 2024, with the publisher naming GRID as its partner at the end of 2023.

In 2024, the GRID and Bayes partnered for the Esports World Cup, but GRID gained exclusive rights for the 2025 edition.

In February this year, Bayes announced a deal with ESL FACEIT Group (EFG). However, as financial troubles mounted, EFG also switched to GRID.

As key contracts were lost, reports of redundancies and insolvency followed.

GRID Targets Esports Betting For Future Growth

Although the acquisition of Bayes’ technology will be sued across GRID’s portfolio, the company noted there will be “a particular focus on GRID Bet, the company’s comprehensive solution for regulated esports betting.”

GRID co-founder Tom Warburton will lead the company’s expanded drive of GRID Bet as the Chief Business Officer. Warburton said that utilizing official data has been a key element of successful sports betting products.

He stated, “All of the most impressive sports betting products I’ve ever worked with had one element in common, they were powered by official data.”

”Trading efficiency, accuracy of odds, live betting, and the breadth of the offering can only be unlocked with official data, especially in the digital world of esports, where the game server is the one source of truth.”

In a dominant position, GRID will hope to avoid the fate of Bayes. The company now has over 100 employees and generates an estimated $16.5 million per year in revenue.
