“A small step back” – Black Ops 7 changes movement

Slow down, increase control – the new gaming experience

When Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is released in November, the focus will not only be on the story, but also on a change that many fans will notice immediately: movement. While sprinting, sliding, and climbing have become faster and faster in recent years, Treyarch is now deliberately putting the brakes on.
The so-called “Tac Sprint,” which previously gave players an extreme speed upgrade, has been completely removed from the standard version. But that doesn’t mean the community has to give up the gas pedal. Design Director Matt Scronce explains in an official video:
“The basic design philosophy for our core movement in Black Ops 7 was to take a small step back.” At the same time, he reveals that the base speed has been slightly increased. Those who still want to use the Tac Sprint can activate it via the perk system. It’s a clever trick that distinguishes between tactical play and aggressive pushing.

This is Treyarch’s response to the often heated debates within the fan community: Should Call of Duty remain a strategic shooter or become a high-speed carousel for adrenaline junkies? With this approach, the studio aims to satisfy both sides.

Not like ping-pong balls – wall jumps, but no jetpacks

Another point that caused a stir in the run-up to the game’s release was the spectacular jumps in the trailer. Many players feared a return of jetpacks and over-the-top moves. However, Scronce clarified: “What you saw there was our Kinetic Jump – and it’s only available in the co-op campaign.”

In multiplayer, on the other hand, Treyarch is focusing on improved “Omni-Movement” and the introduction of wall jumps. Up to three jumps in a row are possible, but with decreasing momentum. “We want to avoid players flying through the maps like ping-pong balls,” said Scronce.
There will be no wall runs or double jumps, and futuristic jetpacks will also be left out. A grappling hook, which is causing a stir in co-op mode, could possibly be integrated into the 20v20 battles – the studio is currently still checking whether it fits into the balancing there.
Fans can also look forward to new versions of classic Black Ops maps, which are said to be “unprecedented.”

With these adjustments, Treyarch is attempting to strike a balance between modern innovation and nostalgic gameplay – a balancing act that could be crucial to the success of Black Ops 7.
