Devil May Cry Director Hideki Kamiya Believes Hideo

Although it’s been a decade now since the wildly popular P.T. demo was delisted from the PlayStation Store by Konami, it still manages to make its way at the forefront of discussion, most recently through the words of Devil May Cry Director Hideki Kamyia, who believes Hideo Kojima should develop his own game in that very style.

Originally released in 2014 as a demo for what would eventually become Konami’s Silent Hills, P.T. was a collaboration between Kojima and director Guillermo del Toro that captured the attention of fans thanks to its atmosphere and its integration of horror elements into a looping corridor concept.

The P.T. demo would eventually be delisted in 2015, when Konami canceled Silent Hills, with Kojima soon stopping his collaboration with the publisher. It, however, didn’t cease fascinating those who did get to experience its approach to horror, and it appears Devil May Cry Director Hideki Kamiya counts among them.

As he noted in a post on Twitter, formerly X, spotted by IGN “if it’s impossible to resurrect P.T., Kojima should make a new game in the same style.”

He went on to add that “if Kojima doesn’t do it, maybe I’ll give it a go. I hate horror though, so it wouldn’t be horror… plus, I have no ideas.”

P.T.’s lingering influence would continue to be felt in titles like Visage and The Exit 8. Judging by how often it’s mentioned in online discussions, we’ll likely hear about it for a while to come.

Were Kamyia to actually attempt creating a game in a similar style, albeit devoid of its horror elements, it’s unlikely that it would launch in the near future, as he is currently directing Capcom’s in-development Okami sequel.

Meanwhile, Hideo Kojima’s breakup with Konami makes a revival of P.T (or Silent Hills) as it was unlikely, even if Silent Hill as a series has returned from the dead.

His studio, Kojima Productions, released Death Stranding 2 earlier this year and is set to share more details about future projects later this month.

Among them counts OD, a mysterious game meant “for all players and screamers” that was teased back in 2023 and hasn’t reemerged since.
