Magic Chess: Go Go (MGCC) is set to host its first global tournament as the game announces its Season 3 update.

Details about the global tournament haven’t been revealed yet, but it will be a part of Season 3, which will launch on August 20th. MOONTON, the game’s developer, has claimed Season 3 will be its most competitive season yet and that the tournament will be easily accessible following the launch of leaderboards.

“Our upcoming global tournament is a huge milestone in evolving MCGG’s competitive ecosystem,” said Gao ‘Skyhook’ Chong, MCGG Producer at MOONTON.

“We’re focused on creating more ways for players to engage with the game while building a structure that supports community growth.”

Magic Chess: Go Go was launched on May 28th and has signalled esports ambitions even before its launch.

At the M6 summit in Malaysia last year, the developer revealed its 2025 esports ambitions for the game, where it said that competitions will gradually expand throughout SEA. It seems that this scope has been extended following the successful global launch of the game.

The first esports tournament for MCGG happened in February, which saw 512 Indonesian players invited to compete for a $5,100 (~£4,000) prize pool. Additionally, the top 16 players received livestream traffic support to help them become streamers.

Season 3 introduces significant updates to the game, some of which will complement the game’s new global tournament.

Firstly, it introduces five new synergies: Aspirants, Metro Zero, Luminexus, Starwing, and Shadowcell. These will replace original synergies, and players can use them to unlock the corresponding hero skins for free.

Secondly, the new Go Go Auction lets players bid on eight powerful items, with opponents able to outbid up to three times. Players can also instantly secure one item for 20 Gold, but only one can be owned per match.

Lastly, the game introduced a new commander ranking system, which lets players climb leaderboards across districts, cities, provinces, countries and the world.

What is Magic Chess: Go Go?

Magic Chess: Go Go (MCGG) is a mobile auto battler by Mobile Legends: Bang Bang developer MOONTON, which is set in the same universe, combining the game’s characters.

Prior to its launch, the game had a lot of anticipation with more than 20m pre-registrations. In this, eight players compete in PvP combat on a chessboard across multiple rounds.

Each round features 1v1 battles, where players have to master strategies to take down their opponent.
