The battle for the galaxy is far from over for the brave troops of Helldivers 2. Since its release in early 2024, the co-op shooter has been steadily delivering fresh content, new weapons, and nasty enemies – and on August 26, 2025, Xbox players will join the fray for the first time. But for some veterans, that’s not enough. They want more. Harder. More ruthless.
While most recruits are still letting off steam on the medium difficulty levels, die-hard pros have long since fought their way to the top of the ten levels. There, a hail of bullets from monstrous bosses, dangerous enemy types, and endless waves of attacks awaits them. But this is exactly where the developers have hit an invisible wall – and have to rethink their strategy.

On paper, it’s simple: more enemies mean more chaos and therefore automatically more difficulty. But as Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani explains, there are technical limitations. Every additional enemy eats up performance – and at some point, the gaming experience suffers more than any virtual soldier.
The problem: even now, the most dangerous creatures appear in groups at the highest levels. A further increase in sheer numbers would not only upset the balance, but also cause the servers to overheat. The solution must therefore be more creative than simply “more of everything.”
