Publisher SNEG today re-released Dungeons & Dragons: Dragonshard on Steam, bringing the 20-year-old RTS/RPG hybrid back into the spotlight while giving it a series of light improvements that make it run smoother on modern PCs.

Although SNEG stresses that Dragonshard’s re-release “is not a remaster,” since its gameplay, balance, art, and story have remained “unchanged,” anyone picking it up can expect “modern resolution support, localisation‑friendly saves and profiles, smoother timers and physics, ASLR compatibility,” alongside several other “under‑the‑hood fixes” that should make experiencing the game in its (almost) original glory easier.

In case you’re unaware, Dungeons & Dragons: Dragonshard is set in the world of Eberron, blending real-time strategy and role-playing game elements.

On the surface, you command sizeable armies belonging to one of three playable factions, each of which has its own strengths and weaknesses.

Then, you also control small hero-led parties that venture underground, where they face a variety of nasty beasties, gaining both experience and items that can provide a notable advantage in the conflict above ground.

Traditional tactics mix with magic – this is a DnD game, after all –, while the manner in which you place structures “can specifically affect units’ powers” thanks to the grid-based Nexus system.

Below, you’ll find the full changelog of Dungeons & Dragons: Dragonshard’s Steam re-release, as provided by the publisher:

  • 16-bit resolution support removed
  • Splash screen no longer makes the whole screen black
  • Added all system resolutions to the options screen
  • The user data folder was moved to the game root folder
  • Fixed compatibility with forced ASLR setting enabled
  • Fixed not being able to save on non-English operating system
  • Fixed not being able to create profiles on non-English operating system
  • Fixed not being able to delete profiles with invalid filenames
  • Fixed keyboard input glitching on non-English keyboard layout
  • Fixed various system timer issues
  • Fixed physics objects animating too fast
  • Fixed a crash when closing the game during a mission

Dungeons & Dragons: Dragonshard is now available on PC via Steam for the discounted price of $8.99/€8,77/£7.65 or your regional equivalent.

It is accompanied by the re-release of party-based RPG Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone, also overseen by publisher SNEG.
