The first Ashes of the Singularity, released in 2016, was a very special real-time strategy game thanks to its massive scope. In 2026, a full decade later, Ashes of the Singularity II will allow us to conquer entire worlds with even more units.
The original game was powered by a “multi-core graphics engine capable of handling thousands of units simultaneously across maps the size of entire continents.” As for the science fiction story, it “envisioned a future dominated by sophisticated AI managing drone constructs to battle post-human factions” across the solar system. In the sequel, the United Earth Forces aim to reclaim what’s been lost from their AI and Post-Human enemies.
About the new ‘pure human’ faction, Brad Wardell, CEO of Stardock Entertainment, said the following: “Obviously, in the first game, the number one request was to have a human faction… Back then, we just couldn’t support having thousands of organic, walking, squishy people in the world and thus had to design in favor of machines. We’re really excited to bring the humans into the war and watch how they fare against the massive mechanical armies of the Substrate and PHC.”
The ambitious RTS is being developed by original Ashes of the Singularity co-developer Oxide Games, with Stardock supporting the effort as publisher. A complete Steam page and an official Discord server for the game are already up, and we’ve been told to expect more news and previews in the coming months.
