At the end of 2022, Netflix pulled the plug on a fairly popular series. The fan protest was massive and actually succeeded! Warrior Nun is set to return as a film trilogy.
It should come as no surprise to anyone that Netflix is canceling popular TV series. At the end of 2022, it was the turn of Warrior Nun: the fantasy series, in which battle-hardened nuns fight creatures from hell, was canceled by the streaming service after two seasons.
This article appeared in an earlier version on and has been revised with all the latest information on the topic.
But now there is a happy ending after all: Warrior Nun is actually coming back! This was already announced in 2023. Initially, the creator of the Netflix series, Simon Barry, was in talks for a third season and promised big things on the news service X (formerly Twitter):
Today I’m happy to officially report that because of your combined voices, passion and amazing efforts – #WarriorNun will return and is going to be more EPIC than you could imagine. More details to come! SOON! Thank you!! #SaveWarriorNun #WarriorNunSaved ❤️🎬 pic.twitter.com/yuTbRR2L3q

More details have now emerged. According to the latest reports, Warrior is set to return as a film trilogy – but not on Netflix, instead in cinemas. Simon Barry is no longer on board, and there is talk of a complete reboot. The first of the three films was supposed to go into production in 2025 instead of season 3, but the reboot currently seems to be stuck in development hell.
In October 2024, producer Dean English released the latest update on the Warrior Nun films. Following an investigation into the suspicious finances of production company Productivity Media Inc., its CEO William Santor was suspended; in early 2025, Santor was found dead at his estate in the Cayman Islands.
According to Dean English, the scandal has had a negative impact on Warrior Nun, but there is still hope for the film reboot.
The long fight for Warrior Nun
After Netflix pulled the plug on Warrior Nun at the end of 2022, a massive fan protest formed. Under the hashtag #savewarriornun countless fans of the TV series gathered to demand that 19-year-old Ava (Alba Baptista) be allowed to continue her fight against demons and a diabolical cult.
In the wake of a petition , over 120,000 viewers also campaigned for Warrior Nun to be brought back.
The protest made such a big splash and lasted long enough that even Simon Barry was overwhelmed by the fans’ dedication. In March 2023 , he commented on the ongoing efforts of his fans:
If Warrior Nun does indeed return, it will be thanks to the community behind the TV series.
The fact that Warrior Nun has such a loyal fan base is evident from its average audience score of 97 percent onRotten Tomatoes . Incidentally, Warrior Nun even outperforms Netflix heavyweights such as Stranger Things and Wednesday.
However, not everyone rates Warrior Nun so highly: the series only scores 84 percent with critics, while on Metacritic with an average rating of 62 and 72 points, respectively.
What is Warrior Nun actually about? The series revolves around the teenager Ava, who is actually dead but is brought back to life by a halo. She is then trained as a warrior nun to fight alongside her sisters against a demonic threat, wage a holy war, and prevent the end of the world.
However, the love affair between two main characters, which develops over two seasons, strikes a particular chord, but we don’t want to spoil it here. It’s best to take a look at the trailer for season 1 of Warrior Nun for yourself.
