Rocket League content creator Jared ‘SunlessKhan’ Zoo is launching his own Rocket League esports tournament.
SunlessKhan is one of the game’s most popular creators with over two million subscribers on YouTube.
His new Rocket League Battle Series (RLBS) will be an invite-only, franchised, 2v2 tournament with a focus on content creation.
The entire competitive season, regular season, playoffs, and final, will be squeezed into a single weekend of games.
However, the matches will be much shorter, at three minutes each, to make this possible.
The format will see 14 games scheduled on both Friday and Saturday, with playoffs and the final taking place on Sunday.
However, the actual dates have not yet been confirmed.
All of the action will then be condensed into one long YouTube video, assumedly uploaded to SunlessKhan’s channel.
There will be eight franchised teams of two in total, with the following preset franchises:
- Clowns
- Generals
- Team of Bronzes
- Painkillers
- Goblins
- Philosophers
- Divorced Dads
- Natural Disasters
Within these teams, players will select pre-established characters, i.e. “Dirty Girt” or “Uglug the Wicked” on the Goblins.
Although players are also encouraged to pitch their team names and characters to the commissioner.
Despite the focus on content creation, participants are still required to be SSL rank or have reached it previously.
All players will remain anonymous, with voice chat banned in order to encourage typed trash talk to entertain viewers.
However, SunlessKhan claims a lot of big names have already signed up for the event, tweeting:
“You guys will not believe the names that are signing up for this. This league is gonna be insane.”
While competitive, this tournament will mostly be for fun. There won’t be odds on esports betting sites.
SunlessKhan instead wants the event to be reminiscent of basketball’s Harlem Globetrotters and Baseball’s Savannah Bananas.
The YouTuber has dabbled in esports in the past, having founded the Rule One esports team back in 2022.
He and other content creators are having to get more creative with content as Rocket League struggles with DDoSers.
British pro ApparentlyJack blasted Rocket League devs for not fixing the DDoS issues ahead of EWC and RLCS.
The issues have meant that high elo players are struggling to regularly play online.
Fortunately, the developers recently admin controls to Rocket League’s private matches, giving players more options.
This includes the ability to pause live matches and change the amount of time left on the in-game clock.
This will certainly help SunlessKhan with running this new RLBS esports event.
