The July 2025 Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase was fairly mediocre, but there were a few announcements that surprised viewers. The developer behind the highly successful Silent Hill 2 remake, Bloober Team, revealed more details about its upcoming sci-fi survival horror game, Cronos: The New Dawn, including its release date and a surprising Switch 2 version.
Cronos: The New Dawn was first announced at an Xbox Showcase in October 2024, but has reportedly been in development since 2021. It was subsequently announced for Steam, Epic Games Store, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2 was added to the release roster yesterday (July 31) alongside the announcement of its September 5, 2025, release date.
There will be both digital and physical releases of Cronos: The New Dawn, as well as Standard and Deluxe Editions. The versions available depend on your platform of choice, so be aware of that when purchasing. The Standard Edition costs $59.99 and is available digitally on all platforms. For $10 more, you can purchase the Deluxe edition, which lets you play 48 hours before everyone else. However, this version isn’t available on Switch 2.
PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2 players will also be able to grab physical versions of the game, which will include some bonuses like stickers and in-game items for $59.99. Pre-orders for all versions of Cronos: The New Dawn are available now, alongside a new story trailer that shows us more of the game’s soul harvesting mechanic.
Many people were commenting on social media about how close the release date is, particularly given that it will launch less than a year after it was first announced. Others are disappointed that it will launch in the same month as another upcoming survival horror game, Silent Hill f, which is expected to launch on September 25, 2025.
